Job description

Responsibilities
  • Make required rounds to ensure proper equipment operation and perform visual and olfactory inspections.
  • Ensure the unit is operating at target rates and production is on spec.
  • Monitor operating equipment to keep it within desired ranges.
  • Handle maintenance items in the assigned area, including staging of equipment.
  • Identify problem areas and communicate suggestions to unit supervision, engineering, or other associates.
  • Complete a site Safety Orientation and adhere to operator safety and environmental policies.
  • Assure compliance with all applicable government safety and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor production and equipment operations during actual production runs to ensure target rates and product specifications.
  • Draw raw material, unit stream, finished product, and shipping samples per the unit sampling schedule.
  • Complete rotating equipment checklists each shift; lubricate as necessary, tighten valve packing, correct leaks, and blow down transmitter legs.
  • Work with the team to identify process problem areas and communicate them effectively through the organization.
  • Execute the unit energy optimization plan.
  • Participate in shift hand‑offs and key operator communication meetings.
  • Participate in audits, investigations, HAZOPs, PHA's, and quality efforts.
  • Maintain good housekeeping of equipment, control rooms, and production areas.
  • Clear and lockout/tagout (LOTO) equipment for Maintenance Manager preparations and sample collection.
  • Troubleshoot process and mechanical‑related issues and collaborate with Console Operators and Maintenance to resolve them safely.
  • Ensure activities comply with integrated management systems (safety, food safety, GMP, health, environmental, quality, and responsible care requirements).
Qualifications

  • Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and dynamic priorities.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Associate's degree in Process Technology plus 2 years of experience in a petrochemical or refinery setting; alternatively, high school diploma or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in a petrochemical or refinery setting.
