Job summary

Westlake is hiring a Chemical Process Operator at the Chlor-Alkali facility in Kentucky. You will operate chlorine cells, caustic evaporation, demineralized water systems and HCl synthesis to support vinyl chloride monomer production.

You will manage feed rate, purify process streams, provide steam and instrument air, and maintain associated equipment. You will have an Associate degree and 3–5 years of industrial experience; Westlake emphasizes safety, efficiency and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree and 3–5 years of industrial experience.
• Experience operating chemical processing equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates chlorine cells, caustic evaporation, demineralized water system and HCl synthesis.
• Maintains maximum plant feed rate (cellroom KA load) under process conditions.
• Operates brine facilities to remove impurities and metals.
• Provides 180# steam for the plant steam system and air for instrument air dryers, dilution air dryers and plant air system.
• Operates the chlorine and hydrogen drying, compression and liquification process.
• Operates 20% caustic dilution system for transfers to other plant locations.
• Responsible for cooling tower and fire water diesel pumps.
• Monitors the chlorine wastewater for mercury removal and pH adjustment.
• Operate and monitor the neutralization tower.
• Responsible for salt handling equipment for brine saturation.
• Operate brine sludge handling equipment and label contents appropriately.
• Maintains housekeeping and disposes of waste in a safe, organized manner.
• Completes other routine duties to meet Chlor-Alkali department and Westlake production goals in a safe, environmentally sound, and cost effective manner.

• Operates the Chlor-Alkali facility to convert salt feedstock into Chlorine to provide conforming feedstock for the manufacture of vinyl chloride monomer. Operates equipment for the separation, purification, storage and shipping of co-products (caustic soda and hydrogen).

• Operates the Chlor-Alkali facility to convert salt feedstock into Chlorine to provide conforming feedstock for the manufacture of vinyl chloride monomer. Operates equipment for the separation, purification, storage and shipping of co-products (caustic soda and hydrogen).

Primary Responsibilities

• Operates the chlorine cells, caustic evaporation, demineralized water system and hydrochloric acid (HCl) synthesis.
• Maintains maximum plant feed rate (cellroom KA load) as allowed by process conditions.
• Operates equipment in the brine facilities for the removal of impurities and metals.
• Provide 180# steam for the plant steam system and air for instrument air dryers, dilution air dryers and plant air system.
• Operates the chlorine and hydrogen drying, compression and liquification process.
• Operates 20% caustic dilution system responsible for making transfers to supply other plant locations.
• Responsible for cooling tower and fire water diesel pumps.
• Monitor the chlorine wastewater for removal of mercury and pH adjustment.
• Operate and monitor the neutralization tower.
• Responsible for salt handling equipment for the purpose of brine saturation.
• Operate brine sludge handling equipment, placing contents in DOT approved containers and labeling appropriately.
• Maintains housekeeping in Unit and cleans up after job tasks and properly disposes of waste materials. Tools and equipment are returned to normal storage.
• Completes other routine or assigned duties as necessary to meet Chlor-Alkali department and Westlake CA&O production goals in a safe, environmentally sound, and cost effective manner.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of an Associates Degree and 3-5 years of industrial experience.
