Job summary

Rio Tinto in the United States is seeking an Operator to run chemical processing, packaging and material handling equipment.

Reporting to the Production Lead, you will work with operations to meet production goals safely and efficiently, participate on the PERT team, handle waste and emergency response tasks, and ensure compliance with safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Technical diploma or associate degree in Chemical Process Technology or related field preferred.
  • Ability to operate multiple circuits.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve difficult problems.
  • Skilled in operating all area equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate chemical processing, packaging, and material handling equipment.
  • Collaborate with operators and management to achieve production goals safely and efficiently.
  • Participate on the PERT team as an entry member.
  • Handle hazardous wastes during generation, transport, storage, or spill response.
  • Suppress fires inside and outside buildings; administer basic first aid.
  • Perform permits and job walk-downs (Lockout/Tag-out, Safe Work, Confined Space Entry, Line Break, etc.).
  • Enter near miss or incident reports into SIMS and support root cause analysis.

About The Role

We are looking for an Operator who will be responsible for the operation of chemical processing equipment, packaging equipment, and material handling equipment.

This is a great opportunity to work with fellow operators and management to achieve productions goals in a safe and efficient manner.

Reporting to the Production Lead and working in a collaborative community, a challenging and exciting environment, you will

  • Participates on the PERT team as an entry member.
  • Handles hazardous wastes during generation, transport, storage, or spill response activities.
  • Suppresses fires inside and outside of buildings.
  • Administers basic first aid.
  • Performs standard duties related to fire suppression, fire prevention, hazard spill response, emergency response, and rescue operations (PERT).
  • Completes all applicable permits and job walk-downs for Maintenance and Contractor work (i.e. Lockout/Tag-out, Safe Work, Confined Space Entry, Line Break, etc.).
  • Enters near miss or incident reports into SIMS database. Takes appropriate action to resolve then provides sufficient detail to enable root cause analysis through an incident investigation.
About You
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Technical diploma, associate degree, or certification in Chemical Process Technology, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering Technology, or related field, strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years of relevant manufacturing experience or an equivalent combination of the education criteria outlined above, and relevant manufacturing experience required.
  • Has the ability to operate multiple circuits.
  • Uses logic and appropriate methods to successfully troubleshoot and solve difficult problems.
  • Skilled in operating all area equipment and had the ability to run more than one unit at a time when required.
