Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily lab activities: collecting, preparing, and analyzing routine and non-routine samples and maintaining inventories.
  • Identify off-grade or abnormal shipments and report to Supervisor.
  • Record results in LIMS with priority and downtime reporting.
  • Support quality and process control through analyses, SQC, and data integrity checks.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and manage reagents.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (FSMA, FSSC22000).
  • Manage hazardous waste per requirements and ensure proper containment and transfer.

What You’ll Do
  • Oversee and perform daily activities such as collecting, preparing, and analyzing routine and non‑routine samples (rock, solids, fertilizer, phosphoric acid); maintain inventories.
  • Identify off‑grade or abnormal shipments and control analyses and report to Supervisor.
  • Accurately record results in LIMS, including priority and downtime reporting.
  • Support quality and process control by conducting scheduled analyses, performing SQC, reanalyzing discrepancies, maintaining data integrity, and reporting off‑grade or abnormal results.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform minor maintenance on laboratory instruments, including reagent management.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (FSMA, FSSC22000, site requirements) and promote strong food/feed safety and quality practices.
  • Manage hazardous waste in compliance with requirements, including proper container use, closure, overflow prevention, secondary containment, and transfer to satellite accumulation areas.
What You’ll Bring
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Science (Chemistry, Physics), is preferred.
  • Previous lab experience, is preferred.
  • Strong cognitive and interpersonal skills are beneficial for success in this role.
  • Initiative is an important work style and requires a willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.
  • Learning the details in all aspects of Standard Operating Procedures, Methods, Safety, and Environmental procedures, production, and regulations are necessary to become a capable Operator I.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Math skills are very important in this role, the Operator I may need to manually calculate results to be reported to one or more customers.
  • The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) testing is required for all hourly applicants of Nutrien. Applicants must complete this test and meet a minimum of 4 in Graphic Literacy, 5 on Applied Mathematics and 5 on Workplace Documents to be considered eligible for employment with Nutrien.
