Job summary

State Steel of Des Moines is seeking a Warehouse Supervisor to coordinate shipping and receiving, manage inventory accuracy, and lead warehouse staff to meet daily and weekly delivery schedules. You will also ensure the correct handling of materials and the proper loading of trucks.

The role includes crane operation training, safety program leadership, and collaboration with Purchasing and Transportation to set priorities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate shipping and receiving activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage inventory adjustments and cycle counts with Purchasing and Sales.
  • Oversee loading of trucks and transfer of material between facilities.
  • Direct will-call orders and assist production duties to meet deliveries.
  • Train warehouse staff on safety practices, crane operation, and packaging.

Job description

Summary

Coordinates activities of workers engaged in preparing and executing incoming and outgoing shipments, ensures overall efficiency and accuracy of the warehouse, inventory and employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Customer service; ensures customers have a 1 st point of contact when entering the warehouse.
  • Manages incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
  • Coordinates pre-receiving and receiving of material, staging material for pick-up, oversees proper loading of trucks
  • Oversees the receiving and and preparation of transferred material to/from other State Steel facilities
  • Works with Purchasing and Sales management to cycle count and make Inventory adjustments
  • Collaborates with Purchasing and Transportation to review shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules
  • Manages will-call orders
  • Perform production duties as needed to ensure on-time deliveries
  • Responsible for training of warehouse employees including but not limited to: overhead crane, lifting devices, banding/packaging and safety.
  • Partners with the Safety Director to lead safety practices, meetings, training for the entire facility on a regular basis
  • Works with Human Resources to determine hiring needs and discipline
  • Oversees break schedule and attendance to maintain operation efficiency
  • Assists management with efficiency initiatives. Communicates problem areas and provides suggestions for improvement.
  • Ensures overall cleanliness of the facility
  • Communicates with management to procure supplies essential for warehouse operations
  • Involved with maintenance of equipment and facility, including but not limited to: scheduling preventative maintenance, managing inspections, familiar with LOTO.
Qualifications

  • Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of State Steel.
  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
  • Shipping And Receiving: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Prior management experience: 5 years (Required)
  • Measuring with tape and micrometer (Required)
  • Maintenance experience (Preferred)
  • DOT Knowledge: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Overhead crane: 1 year (Preferred
Work Schedule
  • Requires working weekday mornings and afternoons. Some early mornings, weekends and evenings may be required
Physical Requirements
  • Agility: The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, or legs to perform job tasks.
  • Physical Strength: The ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects using hands, arms, back, abdominal muscles, shoulders, legs, or a combination of these muscle groups. Required to lift up to 60lbs unassisted.
  • Visual Acuity: The ability to see details (e.g., letters, numbers, codes, color, symbols, marks, labels, signs, video displays) clearly to accomplish work tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Work Conditions: The ability to perform job activities, with appropriate intermittent relief where applicable, under difficult work conditions such as in extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, at heights, while exposed to constant/intermittent sounds.
  • Climbing: The ability to climb, work, and carry items up and down ladders.
