Description

The APEX Power Co. Project in Hubbard, TX, currently under Phase 1 construction, is expected to expand to 1.6 GW. It features a diverse mix of generation technologies, including Siemens SGT-800/400 simple cycle turbines, MAN/Everllence 18V51/60G gas reciprocating engines, GE LM6000/LM2500 simple cycle turbines, Pratt & Whitney FT8 simple cycle turbines, and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), enabling flexible, reliable power output. Future expansion may include additional GE aero and large frame units (6B, 7FA/7FB/7H) in simple or combined cycle configurations, allowing the plant to efficiently meet varying energy demands while supporting data center grid reliability.

Opportunity Summary

The Operations & Training Supervisor oversees the site's operations training and qualification programs, ensuring personnel are properly trained through onboarding, continuing education, simulator instruction, and emergency response training. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Safety, and Environmental personnel, this role promotes operational excellence, procedural compliance, and workforce development while providing Shift Supervisor relief as needed to support safe and reliable plant operations.

As Operations & Training Supervisor, your responsibilities specific to the Pre-Commissioning Phase include:

  • Develop startup, shutdown, normal, abnormal, and emergency operating procedures, checklists, and operating guidance to support safe and reliable plant startup.
  • Lead implementation of the site's Operations Training and Qualification Program, including operator onboarding, qualification, simulator training, and system-specific instruction.
  • Support commissioning activities through participation in system walkdowns, PSSRs, first-fire events, synchronization, performance testing, and turnover inspections.
  • Collaborate with EPC contractors, OEMs, Engineering, Maintenance, Safety, and Environmental personnel to develop training materials and transfer operational knowledge.

Your scope of responsibility as Operations & Training Supervisor includes the following primary functions:

  • Administer and continuously improve the site's Operations Training and Qualification Program, ensuring personnel maintain the knowledge, qualifications, and competencies required to safely and reliably operate the facility.
  • Develop and deliver initial, continuing, and refresher training programs for Control Room Operators (CROs), O&M Technicians, and Operations personnel, including simulator training, operating drills, emergency response exercises, and continuing education.
  • Assume primary responsibility for developing and maintaining the site Training Manual (TMP), while maintaining operator qualification programs, training records, lesson plans, examinations, and simulator scenarios to reflect plant modifications, operating experience, and industry best practices.
  • Facilitate Operations-related Maintenance, Safety, and Environmental training while collaborating with subject matter experts and department leadership to support workforce development and regulatory compliance.
  • Mentor Operations personnel and develop Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to strengthen technical knowledge, operational consistency, leadership, and succession planning.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through observations, drills, examinations, operating events, and performance assessments, implementing improvements to enhance operator performance and operational excellence.
  • Support plant startup, shutdown, commissioning, testing, and routine operations while providing Shift Supervisor relief coverage and reinforcing operational standards, procedural compliance, and safe work practices.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Safety, Environmental, OEMs, and contractors on event investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement to ensure training programs remain aligned with plant operations.

Perform other duties as assigned to support safe, reliable, and compliant plant operations.

Working Relationships

The Operations & Training Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager and receives general direction from other plant management. The Operations & Training Supervisor is responsible for directing and overseeing operations personnel and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant and its related processes.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The Operations & Training Supervisor works a standard Monday to Friday day‑shift schedule. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required.

Compensation

This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $54.25 to $63.91 per hour, along with eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Operational Expertise and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree in power plant technology, engineering, or a related technical field is preferred. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Extensive power plant operations experience, including operations supervision and previous Control Room Operator (CRO) experience, with the ability to provide Shift Supervisor relief during routine and emergency operating conditions.
  • Experience operating and supervising simple cycle, combined cycle, and reciprocating internal combustion engine (RICE) generation technologies; experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and administering operations training, qualification, onboarding, and continuing education programs for power plant personnel.
  • Proven ability to develop operating procedures, startup and shutdown checklists, lesson plans, qualification standards, simulator scenarios, and other training materials supporting safe, reliable, and compliant plant operations.
  • Strong knowledge of power plant systems, operating practices, plant startup and shutdown, emergency operations, operational readiness, operator qualification, lockout/tagout, permitting, regulatory compliance, and Incident Command System (ICS) principles.
  • Experience facilitating technical, operations, maintenance, safety, and environmental training in collaboration with subject matter experts; experience with NAES operating and training programs is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to mentor personnel, deliver technical training, develop documentation, and support cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
