Job summary

Air Products in Liberal, KS seeks an Operations Technician to help safely operate helium production and related plants. You will work with a team of technicians and engineers to monitor processes, perform routine maintenance, and uphold safety standards in a cryogenic environment.

A strong mechanical aptitude, reliability, and willingness to work 12-hour rotating shifts nights, days, weekends are essential. High school diploma required; process technology certificate a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; process tech cert/degree a plus.
  • Strong mechanical skills and safety focus in a plant setting.
  • Ability to read piping diagrams and follow procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Basic Safety Process as a site safety team member.
  • Monitor/control helium production and cryogenic processes.
  • Operate pumps, compressors and rotating equipment; perform repairs.
  • Calibrate analytical analyzers and perform routine maintenance.
  • Learn tractor operation for moving large containers onsite.

We are seeking a highly motivated and safety-conscious Operations Technician to join our operations team in Liberal, KS. The Liberal Helium Facility is located 12 miles East of Liberal, KS and is Air Products’ main helium liquid supplier within North America. The Operations Technician will work hand in hand with other Operations Technicians, Mechanical Technician, I/E Technician, and Process Engineers to safely and efficiently maintain and operate the Helium Plants, Air Separation unit and Transfill Operation to include participating in the management of effective safety programs.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Active participation in the Basic Safety Process as a key member of the Site Safety Committee.
  • Controlling and monitoring the continuous manufacturing processes to produce helium at cryogenic temperatures.
  • Work with compressors, pumps and other pieces of rotating equipment.
  • Assist in plant equipment mechanical repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Calibrate analytical analyzers.
  • Learn to operate a tractor(semi-truck) for moving large containers onsite.
Required Skills / Abilities:
  • A strong mechanical proficiency
  • A strong commitment to safety, working as a team, and operational perfection.
  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts night’s, days, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to read and interpret piping schematics/ diagrams.
  • Applying written procedures for starting and stopping equipment.
  • Isolating systems for maintenance using work permits and lock out tag out processes.
  • Performing water chemistry testing.
  • Operating manual and pneumatic valves.
Minimum Hiring Requirements:
  • High school diploma and/ or equivalent.
  • Process Technology certificate or degree a plus
