Job summary

The Skating Edge Ice Arena in Harbor City, CA is seeking an Operations Team Member to help manage daily ice operations, events, and guest services. This part-time role supports the Operations Manager and oversees staff, equipment, and safety throughout the venue.

You will work closely with teams to ensure a safe, engaging experience for skaters and spectators, including event setup, ice resurfacing coordination, and timely communications with management.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous and friendly service to all guests and staff.
• Coordinate daily operations of the ice arena, including ice maintenance and scheduling.
• Monitor ice operations, resurfacing, quality checks, and issue resolution.
• Lead, train, and schedule ice arena staff and concession/guest service teams.
• Oversee setup and teardown of events (games, public skating, rentals) and manage inventory.
• Respond to guest concerns and escalate to management as needed.
• Assist with maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
• Enforce facility policies and ensure safety standards are followed.
• Communicate event details to Operations Manager and General Manager.

STATUS: PART-TIME (NON-EXEMPT)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Operations Team Member for the ice arena is responsible for contributing to the daily operations, ensuring the facility runs smoothly and providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all patrons. This role involves working closely with staff, coordinating events, maintaining equipment, and addressing any issues that arise.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

• Provide courteous and friendly service to all guests and staff
• Help coordinate daily operations of the ice arena, including ice maintenance, scheduling, and facility management
• Monitor ice operations to ensure the ice surface is properly maintained, including resurfacing, checking for quality, and addressing any issues promptly
• Lead, train, and schedule ice arena staff, including ice maintenance crews, concession stand workers, and customer service representatives
• Oversee the setup and teardown of events, including hockey games, public skating sessions, and private rentals Help manage inventory of ice arena supplies, including ice maintenance materials, concession items, and equipment
• Be responsive to guest concerns and direct to appropriate manager to resolve
• Assist with daily maintenance and upkeep of department equipment
• Provide direction and feedback to workers during shifts Enforce facility policies and procedures
• Have general knowledge regarding program options and facility events
• Assist other departments as necessary
• Setup and take down of, staging, risers, and other event related items
• Ensure correct equipment is available for all games
• Keep supervisor informed of issues and updates
• Respond to all incidents, accidents, injuries, and altercations
• Complete and file corresponding paperwork as necessary
• Inspect equipment and communicate the need for repairs or replacements to management
• Ensure health and safety standards are followed
• Foster and maintain a positive work environment
• Responsible for key and radio distribution
• Responsible for opening and closing of facilities
• Communicate to Operations Manager and General Manager on event set and breakdown
• All additional duties assigned by management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to work with a wide variety of ages from preschool thru adult
• Knowledge of ice maintenance and rink operations is highly desirable
• Proven experience in facility management, preferably in an ice arena or similar environment
• Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours) and regular attendance is necessary
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to maintain focus in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
• Must have excellent guest service skills

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds waist high
• Work is performed in an ice arena environment, which includes cold temperatures and varying noise levels
• May involve exposure to ice resurfacing equipment and other machinery
• Will be required to stand for extended periods of time
• Will be required to work indoors and outdoors year-round
• Must be able to work independently in a busy environment
