Job summary

SunCoke Energy seeks a Shift Leader to direct and coordinate crew activities on the Coke production shift. You will ensure safety, enforce SOP adherence, and maintain production schedules by prioritizing operations and coordinating between material handlers, power/co-generation partners, and customers.

Summary

Directs and coordinates activities of all crew members during a Shift in processing materials or manufacturing products, (Coke), in industrial organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following, but not intended to be an all inclusive list. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure the safety of all personnel on Shift / in the Plant
  • Thorough understanding of all Standard Operations Procedures
  • Communicating with and be aware of all persons in the Plant and their whereabouts
  • Continuous upkeep and update on all safety procedures
  • Fully comply and follow the Bargaining Union Contract
  • Supervise Crew members, all classifications.
  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products; including coordination of all activities necessary, per Shift, to ensure that Batteries and all necessary Ovens are pushed and charged according to the Pushing Schedule
  • Comply with all State and Federal Safety and Environmental regulations
  • Coordinate efforts between material handler, Power Company in its co-generation capacity and primary customer.
  • Conduct staff / Crew meetings as required
  • Report, investigate and communicate all accidents, incidences and problematic issues with the proper personnel
  • Prepares operational and staffing schedules to coordinate manufacturing activities, including preparation of overtime schedules, to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Per Shift, completes and reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Directs the inspection machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Manages logistics: inbound/outbound train schedules dumping/reloading
  • Reviews and assures compliance to standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Collaboratively works with Human Resources Manager to resolve worker issues in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for directing and functioning as a team member to meet or exceed coking production schedules.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

Shift Leadership Responsibilities

Directly supervises 10 - 25 employees in the Production. Carries out Shift Leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
