Job summary

Fairbanks Sewer and Water in Fairbanks, AK is seeking an Operations Support Technician to provide administrative, customer, inventory, and hands-on field support for the Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection departments.

Reporting to the Superintendent, the role coordinates work orders and appointments, maintains accurate records, supports customers and contractors, and performs field tasks such as meter reading and inspections while ensuring safe, efficient daily operations.

Qualifications

  • Two years of administrative experience, including office management.
  • Must possess a valid Alaska State driver's license.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office/Windows-based applications.
  • Minimum typing speed of 45 words per minute.
  • Strong customer service and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection departments.
  • Coordinate work orders, appointments, and timecard processes.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist customers and contractors.

Overview

Fairbanks Sewer and Water has an opportunity for a College Utilities for a Operations Support Technician. Reporting to the Superintendent, the Operations Support Technician provides administrative, customer, inventory, and hands-on field support for the Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection departments. This role helps ensure safe, efficient daily operations by coordinating work orders and appointments, maintaining accurate records, supporting customers and contractors, and performing field activities such as meter reading, inspections, and related operational tasks.

Work Hours and Schedule

This position will be based in Fairbanks, AK. Schedule is Monday through Friday.

What You’ll Do
  • Field work including meter reading, disconnect painting, door hangers andother as required.
  • Field work including pretreatment inspections and others as required.
  • Provide a point of contact for customers, contractors, and Customer Service.
  • Purchasing/inventory control including ordering, receiving, checking infreight, and maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
  • Provide support to the Water Distribution Department and WastewaterCollection Department.
  • Responsible for performing administrative duties including processing mail, various clerical tasks, fielding calls, data entry, word processing, managinginformation requests, and maintaining office files.
  • Manages weekly timecard reports, review, and revises as necessary.
  • Schedule and coordinate contractor and customer appointments.
  • Work order system management to include work order generation and closeout to ensure accuracy and that all time and materials have been correctlyapplied.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.
What You’ll Bring
Experience
  • Two years of administrative experience, one year of which dealt with office management development, or was in an office management capacity.
Licenses
  • Must possess a valid Alaska State driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Safety conscious, committed to working safe, and able to identify unsafe conditions.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service that is both polite, prompt and effective.
  • Ability to work well under varying degrees of workload pressures.
  • Ability to maintain commitments to daily essential predefined work goals.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office/Windows based applications.
  • Capable of communicating effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to type with reasonable speed and accuracy utilizing proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Familiar with business office equipment such as copiers, printers and fax machines.
  • Knowledge of industry materials.
  • A minimum typing speed of 45 words a minute.
  • Proficient in the operation of standard office equipment including a personal computer, the Microsoft Office Suite of programs, multi-line phone system, two-way radio, fax machine copier, and scanner.
Work Environment
  • The work involves some walking and occasional lifting to approximate a 40-pound box.
  • Position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week with hours in excess of 40 per week as needed.
