Job summary

Maersk is seeking an Operations Agent 1 in Northlake, IL to manage freight forwarding shipments across multiple modes. The role emphasizes high-level operations excellence and superior customer service while maintaining station KPI targets.

You will track shipments, contract carriers, provide load tenders, quote and invoice international shipments, and maintain clear communication with customers and other stations. This is an on-site position requiring reliability and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to type 35+ words per minute.
• Able to work in a demanding, high-volume environment, especially with email and calls.

Responsibilities

• Tracking and tracing outbound shipments.
• Inspecting outbound freight.
• Contracting new carriers as needed and assigning carriers and providing load tenders.
• Communicating freight status and any problems to other stations and customers, and updating the system.
• Provide customer service.
• Data entry of shipments into transportation management system (TMS).
• Quoting, costing and invoicing of international shipments, air, ocean and ground.
• Domestic air and ground routing (including Canada).
• Negotiate Freight Rates and develop carrier relationships.
• Find and develop new logistics/freight opportunities and design carrier solutions.

Job Summary

The Operations Agent 1 is responsible for controlling freight forwarding shipments into and out of the station across various modes of transportation based on customer requests. The primary focus is providing a high-level operations excellence and a quality customer service experience to all customers while maintaining station KPI’s.

Essential Functions

• Tracking and tracing outbound shipments
• Inspecting outbound freight
• Contracting new carriers as needed and assigning carriers and providing load tenders
• Communicating freight status and any problems to other stations and customers, and updating the system
• Provide customer service
• Able to work overtime and weekend on call rotations.
• Data entry of shipments into transportation management system
• Quoting, costing and invoicing of international shipments, air, ocean and ground
• Domestic air and ground routing (including Canada)
• Contract new carriers
• Negotiate Freight Rates
• Develop collaborative carrier relationships
• Assigning carriers and providing load tenders
• Find and develop new logistics/freight opportunities and design carrier solutions for other Pilot offices and external customers

Pay Range

Pay Range: $22.00 - $24.00*The above-stated pay range is the anticipated starting salary range for the position. The Company may adjust this range in light of prevailing market conditions and other factors such as location. The Company will work directly with the selected candidate(s) on the final starting salary in accordance with all applicable laws.
