Job summary

Specialty Building Products is seeking an Operations Specialist - BMAT Strategist to analyze warehouse flow, inventory movement, and labor use, then translate findings into practical operating standards for local teams.

You will develop standard work, review layouts, partner with regional teams during pilots, and document best practices to share across locations, contributing to safer, more productive and cost-efficient operations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in warehouse, distribution, operations improvement, or a related field.
• Hands-on understanding of receiving, inventory control, picking, staging, shipping, and material handling.
• Ability to read operating data, identify patterns, and turn findings into practical actions.
• Experience writing or implementing standard operating procedures or standard work.
• Strong communication skills with frontline employees, supervisors, and leaders.
• Comfort working in active warehouse and distribution environments.

• Create clear standard work and training resources for repeatable warehouse tasks and help local teams put it into practice.
• Use operating data and direct observation to identify performance gaps and measure whether changes are working.
• Partner with Regional Operations Specialists and local leaders during pilots, rollouts, and follow-up reviews.
• Document proven practices so they can be shared across locations.
• Support continuous improvement work that improves service, productivity, cost, and employee experience.

Specialty Building Products is looking for an Operations Specialist - BMAT Strategist to improve how building-material distribution locations run day to day. The role studies warehouse flow, inventory movement, labor use, layout, and standard work, then helps turn those findings into practical operating standards that local teams can use.

Responsibilities

• Review warehouse processes from receiving through storage, picking, staging, and shipping and identify unnecessary steps, delays, or safety risks.

Minimum Qualifications

• Hands-on understanding of receiving, inventory control, picking, staging, shipping, and material handling.
• Ability to read operating data, identify patterns, and turn findings into practical actions.
• Experience writing or implementing standard operating procedures or standard work.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with frontline employees, supervisors, and leaders.
• Comfort working in active warehouse and distribution environments.

Preferred Qualifications / Skills

• Experience in building materials, lumber, millwork, or another bulky-product distribution environment.
• Experience with Lean, continuous improvement, time studies, labor standards, or process mapping.
• Experience with warehouse management systems, slotting, inventory accuracy programs, or layout planning tools.
• Strong Excel and dashboard skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in operations, engineering, supply chain, business, or similar experience gained on the job.
