Job summary

PurposeEnergy LLC seeks an Operations Specialist to oversee on-site anaerobic digester pretreatment facilities. You will monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize plant systems, ensuring compliant effluent and safe operations. Collaboration with operators, vendors, and management is essential.

The role may include on-call or weekend hours, with a schedule determined by operations needs. A Grade II wastewater license and 3+ years of relevant experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Current Grade II Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator certificate (or higher) preferred.
  • Three years of operator experience in RNG, construction, or industrial maintenance.
  • Familiarity with mechanical/electrical systems; ability to service pumps, motors, generators.
  • Experience with PLCs, controls, and instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, pH).
  • Proficiency with basic IT: spreadsheets, email, PDF/docs.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor plant and equipment performance (flows, temps, pH, COD, VFA, pressures, energy).
  • Conduct compliance audits, safety inspections, and reporting in the tracking system.
  • Optimize facility throughput: feedstock and effluent volumes; energy production.
  • Manage inventory of chemicals, reagents, and spare parts via CMMS.
  • Oversee biological processes, feedstock receiving, pumping, chemical feed systems, filtration, sequestration, solids removal, biogas use.
  • Ensure compliance with wastewater, air quality, and solid waste permits.
  • Maintain Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator License and ongoing continuing education.

Job description

PurposeEnergy is always looking for talented people to join our operations team at our on-site digester facilities. Our operating positions vary widely, from Operations Specialists through Area Managers and Superintendents and we accept applications on a rolling basis, reaching out as positions become available. This posting reflects our current Operations Specialist opening, but we encourage candidates at all experience levels to apply.

The ideal candidate will oversee operations at our industrial food and beverage anaerobic digester pretreatment facilities, ensuring the quality of treated effluent through effective process management and decision-making.

This position involves monitoring, troubleshooting, and diagnosing plant systems, including pumps, piping, tanks, and related equipment. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as you will work closely with plant operators, vendors, and management.

This is a flexible role that may include on-call or weekend hours. The schedule will be determined.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor plant and equipment performance, including hydraulic flows, temperatures, pH, COD, VFA, pressures, and renewable power generation.
  • Conduct compliance audits, safety inspections, and routine reporting; upload results into the required tracking system.
  • Optimize facility throughput, including feedstock volume, effluent volume, and renewable energy production.
  • Manage inventory of consumables such as chemicals, reagents, and spare parts using CMMS.
  • Oversee biological processes, feedstock receiving, hydraulic pumping, chemical feed systems, filtration systems, phosphorus sequestration, solids removal, and biogas utilization.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local wastewater, air quality, and solid waste permits.
  • Maintain an active Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator License and complete continuing education requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Current Grade II Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator certificate (or higher), preferred.
  • Three years of relevant experience as an operator, in RNG, construction, and/or in industrial maintenance.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical systems and/or ability to assist/work on pumps, piping, electric motors, generators, instruments, and basic building maintenance.
  • Experience with the use of PLC’s, controls, and instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, pH).
  • Basic computer skills including spreadsheets, email, PDF’s, document downloading, ordering, cost reporting, & timesheets.
  • Experience coordinating and working with welders, plumbers, electricians, insulators, and startup technicians, preferred.
  • Experience using a CMMS – FIIX experience, preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable Transportation
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, climb, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in varying conditions (indoors/outdoors, occasional exposure to odors and chemicals)

  • $30 - $50/ hr. depending on relevant experience and role
