Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Logistics Services LLC is seeking an Operations Specialist to implement and manage programs advancing safety, compliance, reliability, and efficiency across districts. The role reports to Operations leadership with dotted-line coordination to regional coordinators to ensure consistency.

Responsibilities include development and upkeep of procedures, training program administration, and participation in process safety and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Travel – Up to 25%.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
  • Two (2) years of industry experience required.
  • Two (2) years of relevant operational knowledge and/or direct experience in the area of support required.
  • Experience with Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, Cause & Effect Matrices preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review and revise operating procedures and ensure proper maintenance for compliance.
  • Mentor Operations’ employees and support procedures management.
  • Administer BOT and Operations qualification programs; manage training assessments and records.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives including training and standard implementation.
  • Ensure timely rollout of training on new standards and programs.
  • Support change within the District/Area of Operations.
  • Support OEMS and Operational Discipline practices.
  • Interpret G&P Standards and assist with questions.
  • Participate in PSM-related activities such as MOC, PHA, and audits.
  • Review shift logs and coach improvements; manage shift logging tool.
  • Assist in operator rounds development and maintenance.
  • Support leadership in day-to-day activities and coverage during absences.
  • Assist in maximizing efficiency, troubleshooting, planning, and alignment of process needs.
  • Develop District/Area tactics aligned with guiding principles and communicate goals.

SUMMARY

The Operations Specialists are accountable for implementing and managing programs to advance operations safety, compliance, reliability, efficiency, and profitability in alignment with MPLX NG & NGLs policies and programs. The Operations Specialists are aligned to the district they support and report to the Operations Leadership Team, as well as; a “dotted line” reporting responsibility to the Regional Operations Specialist Coordinator to ensure consistent methods, practices, and training quality across NG & NGLs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, review and revise, train and manage operating procedures and properly maintain executed operating procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Mentor Operations’ employees to contribute to the writing and overall management of procedures.
  • Administer regional Basic Operator Training (BOT) and Operation’s qualification and re-qualification programs; manage and proctor training assessments for site/field personnel; and maintain proper Operation’s qualification training records.
  • Assist with MPC continuous improvement initiatives such as training efforts and standard implementation/review.
  • Ensure timely rollout of training on new standards/programs and focus on the right level of learning and understanding of content as identified.
  • Serve as a champion of change within their District/Area of Operations.
  • Support the Operations Excellence Management System (OEMS) and Operational Discipline practices.
  • Maintain understanding of G&P Standards for assistance with interpretation or questions.
  • Participate in Process Safety Management (PSM) or Process Safety Management voluntary related activities such as management of change, process hazard analysis, and compliance audits.
  • Review shift logs for effectiveness in accurate and timely communication of important operational issues, coach Operations on logging improvements and standardization, and manage the shift logging tool (Ops Core).
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of operator rounds, as needed.
  • Support the district and/or area leadership team by maintaining awareness of day to day activities, attending Operations meetings, and filling in for supervision during vacation, sick absences, and other related absences.
  • Assist the district and/or area leadership team in maximizing efficiency of the operation, advanced troubleshooting, job planning activities, and general alignment of process needed to complete work.
  • Assist in the development of District/Area tactics aligned with MPLX G&P Guiding Principles and goals by demonstrating ownership to communicate vision and strategies to ensure understanding.
