RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead process safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance with all elements of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) requirements, as well as conformance with internal and external standards.
- Provide guidance on the interpretation and application of internal and external standards, including Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP).
- Maintain and continuously improve local and organizational process safety standards and programs.
- Conduct, facilitate, and/or coordinate process safety hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation activities, including Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPAs), facility siting studies, Management of Change (MOC) reviews, and risk calibration activities.
- Collaborate with facility personnel to ensure process safety recommendations are effectively resolved and closed in a timely manner.
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and other stakeholders to resolve process safety issues and foster a strong process safety culture.
- Communicate, elevate, and mitigate process safety risks as appropriate.
- Develop and deliver process safety training and awareness programs.
- Lead and participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and reporting activities.
- Critically evaluate investigation findings, root causes, and recommendations to promote organizational learning and prevent recurrence.
- Perform and/or validate process safety event leak calculations and event categorization in accordance with applicable industry standards.
- Monitor and analyze process safety performance metrics to identify trends, strengths, and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop reports and presentations to effectively communicate findings.
- Lead and coordinate process safety compliance audits, conformance assessments, and assurance activities.
- Support facilities during regulatory inspections and enforcement actions.
- Participate in industry organizations, forums, and specialty groups to share best practices, stay informed of emerging process safety developments, and advocate for sound regulations and industry standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum, or a related discipline)
- Bachelor's degree in a Health, Environment, and Safety (HES)-related field
- High school diploma or GED with at least five (5) years of relevant experience in a process industry (e.g., refining, midstream, petrochemical, or similar).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum, or a related discipline) with at least two (2) years of relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree in a Health, Environment, and Safety (HES)-related field with at least five (5) years of relevant experience in a process industry
- High school diploma or GED with at least ten (10) years of relevant experience in a process industry
