Job summary

Southwest Airlines seeks an Operations Research Developer to turn complex operational challenges into mathematical models and scalable decision-support solutions.

You will partner with Operations stakeholders across Crew Planning, Crew Scheduling, Crew Training, Ground Operations, and the Network Operations Center to translate requirements into models, develop code, test, and refine solutions that improve efficiency for Employees and Customers.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience with LP/IP tools in academic settings.
• Software development experience in an academic environment.
• Preferred: applying operations research principles to solve transportation, logistics, or operational challenges.

Responsibilities

• Support mathematical models based on business requirements.
• Develop code to implement model strategies under guidance from more-experienced team members.
• Assist in preparing technical documentation of models and solution strategies.
• Participate in reviews of models, solution strategies, and code with the Team.
• Assist in testing applications to ensure they perform as expected.
• Assist with calibration of the model or strategy as needed.
• Work with team, business customers, technology teams, and support groups.
