Job summary

G2 Ocean in Atlanta seeks an experienced Senior Operations Manager to oversee vessel and voyage operational activities within the region and maximise voyage efficiency.

You will lead the Operations team, coordinate with Chartering and Regional Operations, ensure safety, compliance, and cost control, and drive high-performance execution across all voyages in your area. Travel to port operations and supplier meetings may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–7 years in shipping operations, preferably in dry bulk/break-bulk.
• Experience in senior operations roles and voyage management.
• Certificate: Chief Officer/Master or equivalent shore qualifications is an advantage.

Position Description:

The job holder will support the Senior Operations Manager in the Atlanta office and be responsible for all vessel and voyage operational activities taking place within his / her area. This to include achieving optimal execution of all voyages managed by his / her office plus maximising the efficiencies of all voyages within his / her area.

The position will ensure that G2 Ocean’s operational procedures uphold the highest standards of safety and are in line with all relevant legal requirements. The job holder will manage the operational resources based in a local office.

Duties and responsibilities:

The job holder will be responsible for:

• delivering high-quality voyage management services.
• supervising, guiding and managing the performance of the Operators within his / her office, setting relevant objectives to achieve high-performing culture within Operations.
• managing and supervising day-to-day operational activity within the relevant office / area, working always in close coordination with Chartering Teams and Regional Operations Director. This activity includes all aspects of the Voyage Execution, including Trade and Voyage review, and participation in Trade meetings as required.
• ensuring proper Operation of voyages according to G2 Ocean’s Voyage Execution principles.
• ensuring that the company’s policies and procedures are followed by all operational staff within his/ her area of responsibility and implementing any changes or addition as may be decided by Senior Management.
• supplier management within his / her area of activity, including all voyage-related cost elements. He / she will coordinate all supplier-related activities as appropriate and necessary with the procurement department, whilst managing and coordinating any supplier management / negotiation activities which may be undertaken by staff based in the local offices.
• Preparing and sending reports as requested, participating in seminars or other internal events, including crew training as may be necessary.

The job holder can be assigned Operating responsibilities as required, for example, cover during vacation periods, spot trades etc.

Some travel to attend port operations, vessels and supplier meetings will be required.

Required qualifications and experience:

Education and work experience:

• Chief Officer / Master certificate and experience, equivalent shore qualifications will be an advantage.
• A minimum of 5-7 years relevant experience in operations roles within the shipping industry, a substantial part of that experience being from the dry bulk / break-bulk sector.
• Previous experience within operations at a senior level.

Knowledge and skills:

• Thorough knowledge of voyage management, vessel operations, and port operations including equipment needs.
• Familiarity with fleet management issues.
• Preparation and close follow-up of budgets, experience with cost/benefit analysis.
• Experienced manager – able to work well with people irrespective of nationality or culture.
• High-level operational knowledge – both voyage and port related (including for example all issues related to documentation, contracts, charter parties etc)
• Integrity, honesty, high capacity, strong organisational and communication skills, high ability to prioritise effectively and handle different ongoing issues simultaneously and professionally.
