As a Contract Logistics Specialist at Kuehne+Nagel, you will manage end-to-end warehousing operations for our customers. By doing so with precision, you not only contribute to the success of your team but also to the daily operations and success in the warehouse and distribution centres. For example, storing and delivering delicate flowers and fresh ingredients to local stores for everyday lunches and family celebrations. The Contract Logistics Operations Manager is responsible for directing the daily activities of the warehouse, the proper utilization of space, equipment, and manpower. Key responsibilities include: staffing, warehouse operations, maintenance of the facility and equipment, implementation of safety, security, quality, housekeeping, and sanitation programs, budgeting, and customer service. Your typical work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 5:00 am - 1:30 pm.
How you create impact
  • Establish programs to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation and utilization of the facility.
  • Schedule to manage all distribution services including receiving, storage, shipping, handling returned/damaged goods, and maintenance activities to ensure customer requirements are met efficiently.
  • Establish long-range labor needs based on sales forecasts and input from management.
  • Make recommendations to Sr. Operations Manager/General Manager on programs to improve operations.
  • Lead warehouse meetings.
  • Work with GM and Operations Managers to establish goals.
  • Lead the operations of the warehouse supervisory personnel to achieve prescribed objectives.
  • Control and direct all transportation into and out of the warehouse to meet company standards.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of reports regarding warehouse operations.
  • Support Production Department Managers to develop smooth flow of inventory into the warehouse for both shipping and storage.
  • Submit all relevant KPI reports.
  • Set up the standard training program for all levels of employees involved in the operations and train them.
  • For small operations: maintenance of forklifts and other MHE (for large operations, this task is usually completed by a Technical Manager).
  • Provide a meaningful review of warehouse performance in relation to the forecast for the prior year.
  • Identify and implement warehouse cost efficiencies as required.
  • Ensure all team members, including themselves, comply with company delegated authorities and all finance warehouse-related policies.
  • Observe all company quality requirements at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with all DC safety policies and requirements.
  • Actively promote, lead, coach, and develop team members using the resources of the company HR framework.
  • Complete Annual Performance Reviews timely, supporting and managing non-performing team members as required.
What we would like you to bring
  • Minimum: High School or Technical degree.
  • Previous operations leadership experience in a distribution or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong WMS knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean processes is a plus. At least 3+ years as a salaried leader in a distribution/manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to support business needs related to attendance, overtime, and punctuality.
  • Ability to handle multiple, simultaneous tasks effectively.
  • Approachable and organized.
  • Ability to work effectively under high pressure.
  • Ability to work without supervision.
  • Must be a US citizen.
