Job summary

Coastal Logistics Group, Inc. in Suffolk, VA, is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee daily warehouse, yard, and production operations.

You will lead a team to execute plans, manage resources, and collaborate across departments to meet business goals while upholding safety, productivity, and customer satisfaction. The role emphasizes labor planning, transportation coordination (inbound/outbound), and KPI-driven improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related area.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in logistics and warehousing environments.
• Proven leadership in warehouse operations, logistics, or supply chain management.
• Strong understanding of cargo yard operations, warehousing, and transportation logistics.
• Experience in workforce planning, scheduling, and labor management.
• Ability to operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and other machinery (Certification preferred).
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Strong communication and leadership to coordinate with teams, vendors, and customers.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to shifting priorities.
• Ability to lift/move up to 50–75 pounds and work in various environments.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies and operational materials.
• Ensure proper usage, maintenance, and allocation of warehouse equipment.
• Participate in hands-on operations as needed (e.g., forklift operation, loading/unloading).
• Supervise warehouse teams and ensure adequate staffing coverage.
• Approve timecards, monitor attendance, and adjust schedules as needed.
• Provide leadership, direction, and support to ensure operational success.
• Conduct performance evaluations and coach/mentor staff.
• Collaborate with HR on employee development, retention, and succession planning.
• Manage conflict resolution and disciplinary actions professionally.
• Partner with Sales and Industrial Engineering to support quoting, onboarding, and new business implementations.
• Maintain clear communication with customers and internal teams to meet service requirements.
• Ensure a seamless flow of information between operations and client-facing functions.
• Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce cost.
• Maintain and enforce SOPs; support development of new procedures.
• Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Track and report on operational KPIs and cost-saving initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and adapt to shifting priorities.
• Ability to lift/move up to 50–75 pounds as needed.
• Ability to stand, walk, and work in indoor/outdoor environments.
• Willingness to operate warehouse equipment when required.

Work Schedule:

• Days: Monday through Friday
• Hours: 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
• Flexibility for overtime, weekends, or adjusted shifts as business needs require.
• Occasional travel
