Job summary

Yates Company, LLC is seeking an Operations Manager to oversee the short- and long-term performance of the company across field installation, project management, and engineering. You will report to the Leadership Team and drive margins, revenue and customer satisfaction in a BAS/HVAC-focused contracting environment.

The role prioritizes budgeting, staffing, safety, and staff development with direct responsibility for field crews and the office.

Qualifications

Yates Company LLC is currently seeking an Operations Manager to be responsible for the short-term and long-term performance of the Company. All Field Installation, Project Management and Engineering employees report to the Operations Manager. The primary areas of responsibility are financial performance, work quality, customer base maintenance, customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and staff development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Meet required department margin, revenue and operating income. Work with the Leadership Team to develop an annual operating budget.
  • Maintain and publish Quarterly manpower projections. In collaboration with the HR Department, recruit and hire as necessary.
  • Develop and implement a department structure that will provide excellent customer service and meet profitability objectives.
  • Work with PMs to assess skill level of each employee. Develop growth plans for each employee and monitor progress.
  • Establish quality standards with a system to measure, grade, and record. Perform periodic field inspections. Use work quality as a review objective for all staff.
  • Establish departmental relationships that encourage teamwork, cooperation and leverage open communication amongst peers. Prevent silo building between departments and encourage all for one, one for all atmospheres.
  • Establish a system to measure and quantify customer satisfaction. As a supporting metrics, monitor customer retention rate and warranty call back rate.
  • Maintain a companywide safety program to ensure employee participation at every level. To include office worker compliance to the field level.
  • Promote employee training programs, centered on job specific tasks and based on the skills each trade or profession needs. Make the program tied to merit increases.
  • Develop and maintain team-centered morale within department. Embrace and promote the Y8S-San Antonio culture both in our goals to provide exceptional products and service, and to providing a challenging work environment that promotes quality of life for the employees.
  • Create inventory processes to help monitor job stock, excess stock and order processing. Create responsibility matrix for personnel in the event of loss.
  • Accurately forecast revenue monthly to meet monthly, quarterly and annual plans.
  • Maintain positive cash flow per annual company goals. Actively work with accounting department to collect receivables on time.
  • Coordinate new construction to service operations turnover meetings.
  • Responsible for - a) Construction - Installation team members consisting of apprentice levels I, II, III, Installer levels I, II, Journeymen and Foremen. b) Project Managers c) Engineering team
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent with at least five years of operational experience in the temperature control and/or HVAC industry; bachelor's degree in a technical field strongly preferred.
  • At least three years management/project management experience and five years' experience working within a corporate business, or in a position that requires daily customer contact, scheduling the work of others, and customer service.
  • Experience interacting in the construction industry with various trades and members of a typical construction project channel.
  • Knowledge of IP-based networks and various building automation communication protocols and systems. Such protocols and systems include Niagara Tridium, BACnet, Lon Works, Modbus etc.
  • Excellent computer skills: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, and general software navigation required. MS Teams and Smartsheet knowledge.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening, reference check, and background check.
  • Excellent leadership skills to enhance team productivity and standards of work produced.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
  • Proficient in working with others to plan, conduct, and report work efforts.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments. Must be able to manage and prioritize a large workload.
  • Ability to clearly explain technical information to all audiences.
  • Clean, neat, and professional appearance in line with the position. This is a customer-facing position, so proper representation of the company is extremely important.
  • Experience managing budgets for building automation controls projects.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information.
  • High level of ownership, enthusiasm, and a collaborative, professional demeanor.

Work is performed in a primarily office environment including remote locations or on-site at project locations. Project locations include work sites in commercial, industrial, institutional buildings, or other construction areas including outdoors environments with constant exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, metal shavings, moving objects, sharp edges, and temperature extremes.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
  • Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • Remain in a sitting position at a desk for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent and repeated hand and arm movement to manipulate objects.
  • Frequent lifting up to ten pounds individually, and team lifting heavier items.
