Job description

The Operations Manager is responsible for providing operational leadership for the facility to ensure commercial execution, including technical and managerial expertise for the efficient and profitable operation of the elevator and/or terminal. This role requires effective communication with the Location and Regional Operations Managers to ensure the facility is prepared to meet schedules and capitalize on opportunities. Key responsibilities include inventory control, operational cost management, logistics, grain conditioning, space allocation, preventative maintenance, talent management, energy conservation, and asset security.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Manage and ensure effective inventory control within company requirements.
  2. Maintain operational costs at or below the planned budget.
  3. Assist in developing and executing facility improvements.
  4. Maximize mix & blend opportunities through effective space allocation and utilization of in-house stocks and market grains.
  5. Schedule and oversee all preventative maintenance to ensure safety and reliability, complying with OSHA standards.
  6. Lead talent development for operational staff to control costs and ensure continuous operations.
  7. Ensure all staff are properly trained and understand safety and operational procedures.
  8. Interpret program language, analyze critical data, and apply findings to site-specific situations.
  9. Implement and promote energy conservation and sustainability initiatives to reduce costs and consumption.
  10. Secure assets to prevent theft, property damage, vandalism, and trespassing.
  11. Lead onsite workers, including contractors, temps, and service providers.
  12. Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, environmental, and company programs, including federal, state, and local regulations.

Other Job Functions:

  1. Communicate effectively with regional leadership regarding all facility aspects.
  2. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Technical Degree in Agriculture, Business, Engineering, or Safety (preferred).
  • At least 3 years of leadership experience in a grain elevator or terminal.
  • Experience leading safety programs.
  • Strong mechanical, maintenance, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others.

Special Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Must frequently stand, walk, use hands, kneel, and bend.
  • Exposure to moderate to loud noise and grain dust.
  • Navigate uneven terrain or confined spaces safely.
  • Properly wear PPE, including respirators, fall protection, safety glasses, and hard hats.
  • Climb stairs and ladders.
  • Work at heights up to approximately 200 ft.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions about 80% of the time.
  • Perform job responsibilities for up to 8 hours daily.
