Job description
Overview

Job Title: Operations Manager
Location: Remote (U.S.-based)
Salary Range: $60,000–$70,000 per year

About Faithful America: Faithful America is a network of progressive Christians demonstrating our faith through bold, prophetic action for a more equitable, free, and loving world. We are a community of Christians from all denominations and none, churched and unchurched, who integrate spiritual practice and organized action to love our neighbors and to resist those twisting our faith to cause them harm. Since 2004, we have educated, organized, and mobilized social-justice Christians to advance Jesus\' prophetic vision of God\'s Kingdom and to challenge White Christian Nationalism and all the ways it harms our neighbors, our faith, and our democracy. We are building grassroots power to oppose oppression and to transform unjust systems and ideologies that support those in power.

Position Overview: Faithful America is seeking a resourceful and highly organized Operations Manager to oversee and strengthen internal operations and administrative systems. This is a new role on our small but growing team, offering the opportunity to manage day-to-day operations and build the systems that support long-term sustainability.

This position will be the sixth full-time staff role at Faithful America, joining a dedicated team of employees, freelancers, and a Board of Directors.

In the near term, the Operations Manager will take ownership of essential day-to-day finances, people operations, procurement, and technology; provide governance and planning support; and support key organizational functions. Over time, the role will lead efforts to improve and scale our systems, increase efficiency, strengthen compliance processes, and better support our mission.

We\'re looking for someone with meticulous attention to detail, a high degree of initiative, and strong alignment with our mission and values.

Qualifications (highly desirable): Experience in nonprofit operations – especially with a 501(c)(3) and affiliated 501(c)(4) – and comfort with coordinating financial reporting. The right candidate will thrive in a collaborative, start-up-like environment where systems are still being built and improved.

Role fit: You will be responsible for day-to-day operations behind the scenes to ensure mission-driven work runs smoothly.

Responsibilities
  • Core Responsibilities (>90%)
    • Manage day-to-day finances, including accounts payable and receivable, and timely financial reporting (QuickBooks Online), with audit trail records.
    • Coordinate with accountants and auditors (990s, annual audits, state registrations, monthly board financial statements, FEC filings when necessary).
    • Support donor stewardship by generating templated donor acknowledgement letters and drafting communications for monthly donors.
    • Manage day-to-day people operations (payroll through the PEO administrator, benefits stipends, reimbursements).
    • Lead onboarding/offboarding, leaves of absence, and related people operations tasks.
    • Oversee procurement and technology (licenses, accounts, renewals, insurance policies) and manage vendor relationships.
    • Provide governance and planning support (staff travel, conferences, board meetings, agendas, notes).
    • Assess, research, develop, and implement improvements to internal processes and systems; support 501(c)(3) organization operations.
  • Other Responsibilities (<10%)
    • Monitor the info@faithfulamerica.org inbox and respond or route as needed.
    • Provide logistical and administrative support for campaigns and member events as needed.
    • Participate in regular staff meetings and contribute as a collaborative team member.
    • Support other tasks as needed to maintain sustainable workload and shared accountability.
Success in the First 6 Months
  • Develop baseline understanding of Faithful America\'s mission, goals, campaigns, and operating context.
  • Understand how core work gets done, including systems, tools, and responsibilities within the team.
  • Own daily operations, execute tasks accurately and on time, and maintain organized administrative processes.
  • Work proactively with limited supervision and identify opportunities for improvement in systems and subscriptions.
  • Demonstrate alignment with organizational values and contribute to a healthy work culture.
Qualifications

Note: We know there are great candidates who may not check every box. If that\'s you, please apply and tell us about yourself.

  • You could be great for this role if you have at least 2 years of operations experience (ideally in nonprofit or campaign settings). Hands-on experience in day-to-day organizational finances is highly desired.
  • Resonate deeply with Faithful America\'s mission, vision, and values; trustworthy with discretion and integrity.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or collaboratively as needed.
  • Adaptable problem-solver with good communication and ability to build trust across diverse teams; comfortable with technology and cybersecurity practices.
  • Equity-minded with the ability to work across lines of difference and a social/political understanding of systemic oppression.

Preferred/Examples of experience:

  • Progressive mission-driven organization experience, especially small/start-up; payroll oversight, financial statements, and QuickBooks Online.
  • Non-profit day-to-day financial management with multiple legal entities or restricted grants; policy/process development; project/organizational change management.
  • Audits, legal compliance, budget development; experience with 501(c)(3)/(c)(4) governance norms; cybersecurity improvement practices.
  • Experience with QuickBooks, JustWorks, Concur, Bill.com or similar platforms.
  • Active involvement in progressive social movements related to racial, environmental, economic justice, gender equity, or immigrant rights.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary range: $60,000–$70,000 per year.
  • Benefits include a monthly health-care stipend of $550, disability insurance, access to a non-matched 401(k), and wellness/self-care benefits.
  • Paid time off: 18 days vacation in year 1 plus 1 day per year, unlimited personal sick time, 7 paid caregiver days, 7 paid family leave days, 13 paid holidays, and potential office closures during holidays/weekends.
Work Structure
  • Full-time, exempt position reporting to the Executive Director; approximate 40 hours/week.
  • Flexible hours and wellness benefits; telecommuting with required home-office connectivity; laptop and stipend provided.
  • Open to candidates located anywhere in the contiguous United States; occasional travel may be required.
How to Apply
  • Application deadline: 11:59pm (Pacific Time) on Sunday, October 19.
  • Typically two rounds of interviews and a timed skills test; honorarium provided if required.
  • Please apply using this page. Applications should include a resume and answers to specified questions in lieu of a traditional cover letter.
