Akima Global Logistics (AGL) is seeking an Operations Manager to oversee site operations related to equipment receipt, inspection, processing, and turn-in for a U.S. Army contract.

You will manage workflows, ensure accountability, and lead a team of logistics professionals across compliance and safety programs. The role requires a BA and 5–7 years in logistics with 2+ years in supervision, and travel up to 25% within the United States.

Job description

The Operations Manager oversees all site operations related to the receipt, inspection, processing, and turn-in of military equipment in support of a U.S. Army contract. This role is critical to ensuring accountability, compliance with government regulations, and efficient handling of government property during turn-in or retrograde operations.

Manages and coordinates operational strategies. Reviews, analyzes, and prepares reports, records, and data required for plan activities. Develops and implements policies, practices, procedures, and operating goals. Approves and allocates resources based on business priorities. Comprehensive knowledge of the field’s concepts and principles. Performs complex tasks typically following established processes. Leads and directs the work of other employees and has full authority for personnel decisions. Administers departmental policies and procedures, evaluates results and performance, and assists with the development of new or modified budgets, strategic plans, or policies. Typically requires BA and 5-7 years.

Responsibilities
  • Site & Operational Management:
    • Manage all aspects of equipment turn-in operations in accordance with contract requirements, Army regulations, and supply/logistics directives.
    • Coordinate workflows for receiving, inspecting, documenting, and preparing military equipment for turn-in (e.g., to DLA Disposition Services or other DoD entities).
    • Ensure proper segregation, classification, and handling of serviceable/unserviceable or hazardous materials.
  • Government Property Accountability:
    • Enforce 100% accountability of all equipment received and processed.
    • Ensure compliance with Army supply policies (e.g., AR 735-5, AR 710-2) and property book procedures.
    • Work with the Army’s GCSS-Army, G-Army, or other automated logistics systems for turn-in documentation and tracking.
  • Personnel & Team Leadership:
    • Supervise a team of logistics technicians, warehouse staff, forklift operators, and quality control personnel.
    • Provide task direction, training, scheduling, and performance monitoring.
    • Ensure all team members follow safety protocols and Army site regulations.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Maintain compliance with Army, DoD, OSHA, and environmental regulations related to property handling and disposal.
    • Conduct risk assessments and ensure PPE, material handling equipment (MHE), and procedures meet all safety standards.
  • Reporting & Communication:
    • Prepare and submit daily/weekly reports on turn-in volumes, processing timelines, and discrepancies.
    • Liaise with Army PBOs, Supply Support Activity (SSA) personnel, CORs, and other government representatives.
    • Maintain documentation and records in accordance with contract and audit requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements to increase operational efficiency.
    • Utilize lean logistics or 5S principles to improve throughput, reduce errors, and enhance workplace organization.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business, or related field preferred (or equivalent military/civilian experience).
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in logistics or supply chain management, with 2+ years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Prior experience with military supply systems and equipment turn-in operations is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of GCSS-Army, FEDLOG, DLA Disposition Services procedures, and Army equipment classifications (LIN/NICN/NSN).
  • Strong understanding of DA PAM 710-2-1, AR 735-5, AR 710-2, and applicable FAR/DFARS clauses.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and logistics software/systems.
  • Must have a REAL ID.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Must be able to obtain Tier1/ NACI (Public trust) background eligibility.
  • Must be able to travel within the United States as required. This position requires travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Must possess a valid passport or obtain one within 120 days of employment.
  • Employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Former U.S. Army logistics (92Y, 92A, 91-series) or civilian contractor equivalent.
  • Forklift certification and/or HAZMAT handling training.
  • Active or eligible for a DoD security clearance.
  • OSHA 30-Hour or equivalent site safety certification.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform routine standing, walking, bending, and reaching tasks in warehouse and field environments.
  • Must also meet all physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties, including working in extreme heat or cold, high, or low humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, heights, and other inclement weather conditions.
  • This position involves working both indoors and outdoors, periodic overtime, and exposure to heat, dust, cold, and adverse weather conditions.
