Overview

The Operations Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the significant operations and maintenance functions of a designated operations unit/production center for Medshore Ambulance Service. The role has formal decision‑making authority over all affairs affecting the designated unit, and oversees system status management and staff authority. The Operations Manager assists the General Manager and Senior Management in formulating objectives, policies, and strategies, announces guidelines for company plans and procedures, and ensures the highest possible quality of care and safety of patients. The goal is to produce high‑quality unit hours at a reasonable cost per unit hour while meeting coverage requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Confers frequently with Senior Management, Operations Supervisors, and Assistant Supervisors regarding the activities of the company.
  • Plans medium and long‑range goals and objectives for field operations.
  • Responsible for selection and placement of operations personnel at the supervisor level.
  • Consults on all questionable placements in the designated operation unit.
  • Maintains good relations with the public and allied agencies as they relate to field operations divisions.
  • Assists in contract negotiations and governmental relations affecting the individual operating unit.
  • Ensures personnel are fully informed of company policies, local procedures, and other pertinent information.
  • Reviews and acts upon incident, deviation/exception, and other reports as necessary.
  • Keeps current on events affecting Medshore Ambulance Service, including accidents, injuries, breaches of policy, inter‑agency relations, morale, and newsworthy events.
  • Reviews performance evaluations of Operations Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors and provides input into the appraisal process.
  • Assists supervisors in administering discipline and counseling to achieve desired results, including up to Class III disciplinary actions.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all company equipment.
  • Ensures adequate staffing of the designated operations unit.
  • Ensures maintenance compliance of company vehicles and facilities as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Attends necessary continuing education programs.
  • Acts as a liaison for the General Manager and President by attending meetings with allied agencies.
  • Maintains close working relationships with representatives of other departments in the company.
  • Assigns operations personnel based on achievement level and classification.
  • Recommends policy to Management.
  • Performs other reasonable duties as determined by the General Manager and/or Senior Management.
Environmental Conditions

Typically an office environment, but the Operations Manager must be adaptive to work in all types of weather, including rain, snow, and heat. In the field of emergency medical services, the manager may be exposed to bodily harm and potential bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials.

Patient Privacy Responsibilities
  • Protects the privacy of all patient information in accordance with company policies and federal, state, and local law.
  • Accesses protected health information only as necessary to complete assigned duties and shares it only with individuals who have a legitimate need-to-know.
  • Reports any concerns regarding privacy policies without fear of retaliation.
  • Participates actively in privacy training and communicates privacy policy information to coworkers, students, and patients.

  • Participation in implementation and evaluation of the Loss Control Program.
Special Requirements
  • AS degree or equivalent experience (5 years senior management experience) and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Strong background in operational aspects of ambulance/wheelchair and emergency medical services.
  • Paramedic certification required; National Registered preferred.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (if applicable).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (if applicable).
  • Available for recall 24 hours a day for emergency situations; must be contactable by phone or cell phone.
  • Flexible work schedule to meet company demands.
  • Attends scheduled and called meetings.
  • Strong computer skills.
