Job summary

Beowulf Electricity and Data is seeking an Operations & Maintenance Technician – HVAC Systems in Barker, NY to operate and maintain critical data center cooling systems. You will perform diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs to keep systems running reliably.

The role requires experience with HVAC equipment, electrical components, and controls, plus the ability to read schematics and use CMMS documentation. On-call work and collaboration with cross-functional teams are expected.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/HVAC trade training preferred.
  • Proven HVAC experience in commercial/industrial or data-center environments.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Experience with diagnostic tools and maintenance technologies.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and emergency response.

Located on the shores of Lake Ontario in Barker, NY, our rapidly expanding campus relies on highly skilled HVAC professionals to ensure continuous, safe, and reliable operation of mission-critical cooling systems that keep AI infrastructure running at peak performance.

We are seeking Operations & Maintenance Technicians with strong HVAC experience in critical facilities and industrial environments.

This role is ideal for HVAC technicians, refrigeration mechanics, controls specialists, and industrial maintenance professionals who enjoy troubleshooting complex mechanical systems, optimizing equipment performance, and preventing downtime in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair commercial and industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Support mission-critical cooling systems used in data center and high-performance computing environments.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues using modern diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance to maximize reliability, energy efficiency, and equipment lifespan.
  • Test system performance and calibrate controls, thermostats, sensors, and monitoring systems.
  • Repair or replace defective components including motors, compressors, belts, valves, pumps, and associated equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and equipment documentation.
  • Respond to emergency system failures and support rapid restoration of critical cooling infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and maintenance documentation within CMMS platforms.
  • Work collaboratively with electrical, operations, engineering, and contractor teams to support facility reliability.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on uptime, efficiency, and operational excellence.

Safety Responsibilities

  • Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and critical facility procedures.
  • Apply Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before servicing equipment.
  • Adhere to confined space entry requirements when applicable.
  • Safely handle refrigerants in accordance with EPA standards and environmental regulations.
  • Utilize fall protection equipment when working at elevations.
  • Identify and mitigate hazards associated with electrical systems, rotating equipment, chemicals, and pressurized systems.
  • Participate in job hazard analyses, safety meetings, training programs, and toolbox talks.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near-miss events.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical training or HVAC trade school preferred.
  • Proven HVAC experience in commercial, industrial, manufacturing, mission-critical, or data center environments.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC equipment, refrigeration systems, electrical components, and automated controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and maintenance technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work safely in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying environmental conditions.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations, emergency response activities, and shift coverage as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EPA Section 608 Certification.
  • HVAC trade certification, apprenticeship completion, or state HVAC licensing.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical facilities, data centers, industrial plants, or high-reliability operations.
  • Experience with automation systems (BAS), environmental monitoring systems, and advanced HVAC controls.
  • Knowledge of chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, and data center cooling technologies.
  • Indoor and outdoor work in varying temperatures and weather conditions
  • Exposure to electrical systems, moving equipment, noise, and chemicals
  • May require overtime, on-call shifts, and emergency response
  • Physically demanding work including lifting, climbing, and prolonged standing
