Job summary

WECTEC Staffing Services seeks an Operations & Maintenance Technician for a 62 MW natural gas-fired power plant in Batavia, NY. You will be responsible for plant operations, equipment monitoring, preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and supporting planned and unplanned outages.

You will report to the Plant Manager and collaborate with the Control Room Operator to ensure safe, reliable operation and maintenance of the facility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license required.
• Experience in power generation, industrial maintenance, or related technical environment.
• Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to read and interpret operating procedures, technical documents and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Support safe, reliable operation of the power plant with the Control Room Operator.
• Monitor and operate gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, boilers, generators, pumps, valves, and balance‑of‑plant equipment.
• Assist with startups, shutdowns, inspections, testing, and routine operations.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, calibrations and minor repairs.
• Maintain accurate operating logs and maintenance records.
• Assist with water sampling and chemical testing as per procedures.
• Implement Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and isolate equipment for maintenance.
• Coordinate outages with contractors and vendors and manage work orders in CMMS.

About the role:

Batavia, NY

We are looking for Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technicians to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the facility. This is a direct hire opportunity located in Batavia, NY.This hands-on role is responsible for plant operations, equipment monitoring, preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and supporting planned and unplanned outages. This Power Plant is a 62 MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle cogeneration facility that generates both electricity and thermal energy. You will report to the Plant Manager and works closely with the Control Room Operator (CRO) to support the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the safe and reliable operation of the power plant in coordination with the Control Room Operator.


• Monitor and operate gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, boilers, generators, pumps, valves, compressors, and balance-of-plant equipment.


• Help with equipment startups, shutdowns, inspections, testing, and routine operations.


• Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, minor repairs, calibrations, and corrective maintenance activities.


• Monitor plant performance and identify abnormal equipment conditions.


• Maintain accurate operating logs, inspection records, and maintenance documentation.


• Perform water sampling and chemical testing according to plant procedures.


• Safely handle chemicals and support spill response activities.


• Implement Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and safely isolate equipment for maintenance.


• Operate electrical breakers and switches following plant operating procedures.


• Support planned and unplanned outages and coordinate activities with contractors and vendors.


• Use CMMS systems to manage work orders, maintenance records, inventory transactions, and spare parts usage.


• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.


• Support continuous improvement and follow all environmental, health, and safety requirements.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.


• Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license.


• Experience in power generation, industrial maintenance, manufacturing, military technical operations, or a related technical environment.


• Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.


• Read and interpret operating procedures, technical documents, and drawings.
