La Plata County is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the construction, maintenance, repair and restoration of county buildings, facilities and grounds in Durango, CO. The role involves supervising staff, coordinating work orders, and ensuring safety inspections across fire systems, elevators, and utilities.

Performs a variety of skilled work in the construction, maintenance, repair and restoration of county buildings, facilities and grounds. Inspects facilities, machinery and equipment to determine maintenance needs; operates equipment and machines related to the work. Performs tasks related to supervision of staff, directs tasks through a work order software, performs and tracks safety inspections on fire extinguishers and fire systems, elevators, and panic buttons. Performs moving of office equipment and wintertime snow removal. Incumbents are required to participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call maintenance schedule covering all facilities. Support the setup, tear down and operation of all county facilities public events and services; ensures the success of each event, ranging from providing and coordinating support services to monitoring and directing support services; performs various maintenance activities to include the operations of tractors and construction equipment.

Determines priorities and coordinates support activities between simultaneous activities.
Sets priorities on a daily basis with regard to daily repairs and preventive maintenance activities, inspections, events and landscaping. Meets with vendors and contractors. Troubleshoots problems with HVAC, boilers, roofs, plumbing and drains. Issues orders to subordinate staff and ensures work is completed in a satisfactory and timely manner. Acts as supervisor in the absence of the team leader.
Carries out lead worker responsibilities including: training in job skills, assigning and directing work, making recommendations in performance appraisal, and reporting problems to supervisor.
Works with county facility users to prepare buildings, rooms and other facilities to accommodate all events at the county facilities. Makes changes in the facilities to meet the needs of the group/event. Works with representatives of the group/event and the public to support the success of the operation including: set up, tear down, security, parking and the coordination of utilities such as electrical, lighting, and water.
Operates and maintains a variety of heavy equipment including tractors, motor grader, backhoe, dump trucks and water trucks; performs preventive and major maintenance/repairs on all of the equipment as needed.
Maintains county buildings to include:
Preventive maintenance on stand‑by generator, main electric gate, boiler, air compressor, water heater, freezer, refrigerator and icemaker.
Plumbing work; repairs leaking faucets and pipes; unstops and repairs toilets; unstops drains; installs plumbing ducts, pipes, and fixtures; inspects grounds and fields, repairs plumbing and irrigation problems as needed; inspects all pumps, valves and lights.
Maintenance of sprinkler and fire systems; replaces and repairs defective sprinkler heads, gaskets, valves, pumps, smoke, detectors, strobes, pull stations, fire panels, etc.
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems in fans, motors, compressors, pumps, air handling units, appliances, etc.; installs special power sources, lighting systems, and multi‑voltage switches; replaces electrical motors, elements, fuses, bulbs, and thermostats.
Replaces light bulbs and tubes; installs light ballasts; repairs fixtures.
Moves office equipment including desks, files, books, etc. for County offices.
Performs carpentry work in repairing County buildings and furniture; interprets user requirements; uses provided plans or designs and draws plans; determines materials list; measures, cuts, and assembles materials; finishes project with appropriate paint, stain, varnish, or wood sealer.
Delivers equipment to offices; loads and unloads tools, equipment and materials.
Removes, replaces and repairs pneumatic, electronic, and mechanical locks; disassembles, installs, and repairs locks.
Paints rooms, hallways, and ceilings; patches holes; primes area for painting.
Removes and installs flooring to include carpet, tile and other flooring materials.
Welds and performs metal fabrication.
Repairs washer and dryers and kitchen equipment.
Drives trucks and trailers and operates equipment in the loading and unloading of materials.
Operates and maintains a variety of heavy equipment.
Assists in the selection of materials and equipment utilized in the performance of duties.
Orders supplies and maintains inventory.
Patches leaks in roof.
Cleans and dust offices, vacuums floors, and washes windows.
Maintains grounds; mows grass, rakes, applies insecticides and herbicides, trims weeds, trees and foliage, and performs general landscaping maintenance.
Maintains equipment used in these tasks.
Interacts with the public to exchange and/or provide information.
Maintains the HVAC systems.
Assists with the selection and purchase of various materials and pieces of equipment for county facilities operation and maintenance; orders and picks up supplies and tools required to complete construction projects.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Licenses and Certifications:
Valid State Driver's License.
First Aid and CPR Certification (desirable).
Knowledge of:
Practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment of the building trades (electrical, plumbing, welding, and concrete).
Hazardous materials and the occupational hazards of building trades and of the necessary safety precautions..
Basic landscaping principles and practices.
Basic knowledge in equipment maintenance to include, greasing, fluid belt and hose checking, tire inflation procedures.
Procedures, policies, and operations within area of assignment.
Skill in:
Operation and routine maintenance of light and heavy equipment.
Planning, organizing, assigning, directing, reviewing and evaluating the work of staff.
