Job Description: OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE FIELD TECHNICIAN I

Responsible for learning and performing a wide and diverse range of fieldwork for various AME/EFS service areas. We offer on-the-job training and a career path to help employees develop skills, gain experience, and advance their careers. This position works under the direct supervision of experienced technical personnel.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Perform task-oriented work with instruction.
  2. Understand and apply safety considerations for all work.
  3. Read and interpret manuals to perform maintenance and service.
  4. Gain experience in disassembling, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment such as pumps, motors, and pneumatic systems used in environmental remediation.
  5. Diagnose problems, replace or repair components, test, and make adjustments.
  6. Inspect and perform routine preventive maintenance on sampling equipment, vehicles, etc.
  7. Prepare accurate field documentation based on project requirements.
  8. Operate hand and power tools, electrical testing meters, and material handling equipment like forklifts and skid steers.
  9. Learn to operate boom or scissor lifts with fall protection equipment.
  10. Assist with sampling environmental media (soil, water, vapor, asbestos, lead).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Aptitude for mechanical troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Ability to learn primarily through verbal instruction, training, and observation.
  • Ability to work at heights and wear a respirator.
  • Physically capable of moving heavy objects (50+ pounds) and performing demanding tasks.
  • Ability to bend or stoop repeatedly to adjust equipment.
  • Use equipment and vehicles properly; maintain in good order after use.
  • Wear appropriate PPE, including Level C PPE with respirator when required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education: Some construction or outdoor labor experience, high school diploma or equivalent; environmental degree, OSHA Hazwoper (40-hour), or military experience are pluses. Other experience/education combinations may qualify.

Experience: 0-2 years in environmental consulting, construction, or related mechanical/industrial fields.

Skills: Strong communication skills; mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic skills helpful.

Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, ability to operate CMV or non-DOT vehicles, tow trailers, work outdoors in all weather, and meet physical requirements. Pre-employment background, motor vehicle checks, drug screening, and medical clearance are required.

JOB CONTEXT

Approximately 90% travel for field/site visits (environmental hazards), 10% office work. Travel involves day trips, extended travel, or overnight stays. Long-term remote work may be required. Typical workweek 40-60 hours, with start times between 5-8 am. Overtime, holiday, and weekend work may be necessary, including 24-hour on-call shifts as part of a team.
