J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. in Elizabeth, NJ, is seeking an Operations Internship for Fall 2026. The role offers part-time hours aligned with a student schedule and hands-on exposure to transportation logistics.

Under supervision, you'll assist with customers on transportation services, learn planning and operational tasks, and gain insight into industry trends and company initiatives while contributing to real-world projects.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program and able to work 20–25 hours per week.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
• Willingness to work flexible hours.
• Junior or Senior level preferred.

Responsibilities

• Gain exposure to basic transportation management principles.
• Assist daily ops: planning freight, asset use, safety, DOT compliance, payroll, and logistics analysis.
• Learn industry trends and driver-retention initiatives.
• Perform account-specific duties as needed by the customer.
• Support additional related tasks as assigned.

Job Summary

Under close supervision, this position will assist with customers on providing transportation/logistics services.

Key Responsibilities

• Gain exposure and understanding of basic transportation management principles.
• Become involved and participate in daily operational tasks including planning of freight; asset utilization; safety management; Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance; driver payroll; Customer Value Delivery; logistics management/analysis; driver supervision; profit-and-loss management; maintenance coordination.
• Gain understanding of industry trends and company initiatives as it relates to driver retention.
• Perform pertinent account-specific duties as required by customer.
• Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program OR graduate degree program in good standing at an accredited community college, college or university. Must be able to work 20-25 hours a week during the school semester.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and shifting priorities and directives
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

Compensation

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the terms of the Company’s bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.
