Qualifications

Operations Heavy Equipment Operator (Roll Off Driver)

About the Role

We are hiring a full-time (40 hours/week) Operations Heavy Equipment Operator (Commercial Vehicle - Roll Off Driver) for the Solid Waste Collection and Recycling division. The primary duties involve operating a class B roll off truck to transport waste and recyclables from collection centers to disposal or processing facilities. The role also includes operating heavy equipment such as loaders, skid steers, and forklifts to assist in sorting, packaging, and delivery of recyclables.

Successful candidates must pass a background check, driving record check, and drug screening.

Compensation: Pay Grade 111 / Full Salary Range: $20.20 - $24.24 per hour, based on experience and education.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:00 pm, with occasional Saturdays, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a commercial vehicle for waste/recyclables transport.
  • Maintain MRF and surrounding facilities, operate and adjust automated sorting lines, PLCs, balers, and heavy equipment.
  • Train and coordinate tasks with temporary and inmate laborers.
  • Load recyclables onto trailers, operate heavy equipment, and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Conduct safety meetings and ensure safety protocols are followed.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years of heavy equipment operation experience or equivalent education/training.
  • Valid state Class B CDL, with Class A preferred.
  • Heavy Equipment and CPR/First Aid/AED certifications or ability to obtain.
  • Additional required training includes Confined Space, Fire Extinguisher, Lock Out Tag Out, and Hazardous Materials; OSHA 10-hour preferred.

Physical and Work Environment

This role involves medium physical activity, including walking, standing, lifting (20-50 lbs), and operating in various environmental conditions such as heat, cold, dust, noise, and traffic.
