Job summary

WesBanco Bank Inc. in Columbus, OH seeks an Operations Fraud Specialist to review deposits and digital transfers for potential fraud and to support training and ongoing process improvements.

You will cooperate with branches and the Fraud team to mitigate risk, maintain procedures, and ensure compliance with banking policies while continuously seeking efficiency gains.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
  • Experience in fraud review or risk monitoring preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in training team members on workflows and workload management.
  • Assist in developing and implementing operational plans, policies, procedures, and goals to improve scalability, automation and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with peers and leaders and recommend changes to gain efficiency.
  • Foster strong relationships with leaders and peers to ensure collaboration and effective communication.
  • Assist with process flow documentation and areas of responsibility; pursue improvements.
  • Maintain repository of procedures, processes, and job aids for functional areas.
  • Support effective use of technology within functional areas.
  • Process fraud affidavits and provisional credits to customers' accounts; send letters to other banks to request funds.
  • Review deposits (branch, mobile, RDC, ATM) for fraud using Direct Link Risk Review and approve/decline as needed.
  • Serve as first-line fraud review of In Clearing checks with Direct Link Risk Review; escalate with Fraud team when needed.
  • Review and process fraud claims from other financial institutions.
  • Monitor Digital Banking transactions for fraud (Zelle, External Transfers, Transaction Monitoring).

Job description

SUMMARY:

Responsible for reviewing mobile, remote deposit capture, ATM and branch deposits as well as In Clearing check items for potential fraud, requesting holds and approval or rejections as necessary. The Operations Fraud Specialist is also responsible to review Zelle, External Transfers, and transaction monitoring within our Digital Banking applications for suspected fraud. The Operations Fraud Specialist would also be a key resource in training, testing and implementation of process and procedure changes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists with training and guidance to team members with respect to understanding, processing and managing the workload.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of operational plans, policies, procedures, and goals that further scalability, automation and efficiency.
  • Collaborates with peers and leaders and makes recommendations for changes to gain efficiency.
  • Fosters strong relationships with leaders and peers to ensure collaboration and effective communication within the team.
  • Assists with the process flow documentation for assigned systems and areas of responsibility and pursues areas of improvement.
  • Assists in maintaining the repository of procedures, processes, job aids and other critical information for functional areas.
  • Assists in driving the effective use of technology within functional areas.
  • Performs work within customer service level expectations and key vendor processing timelines.
  • Performs daily work as defined accurately.
  • Makes recommendations to leadership about possible changes to processing that will enhance the process.
  • Processes affidavits for fraud, including processing of provisional credits to customers' accounts and sending letters to other financial institutions to request funds.
  • Reviews deposit items through branch, mobile, RDC and ATM channels for potential fraud using Direct Link Risk Review. Approve or decline items accordingly.
  • Serves as first line fraud review of In Clearing check items using Direct Link Risk Review to mitigate fraud on incoming check files, working with branch personnel and Fraud team when escalation is required.
  • Reviews and process fraud claims received from other financial institutions.
  • Monitors Digital Banking application transactions for fraud, including but not limited to Zelle, External Transfers and Transaction Monitoring.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Banking is a highly regulated industry and you will be expected to acquire and maintain a proficiency in the Bank's policies and procedures, and adhere to all laws, rules and regulations that are applicable to your conduct and the work you will be performing. You will also be expected to complete all assigned compliance training in a timely manner.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Associate's Degree in preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of banking experience, preferably in operations, required.
