Communicates and coordinates with Generation Resources and Transmission owner/operators to obtain, analyze and review Phasor Measurement Unit and Digital Fault Recorder data. Provides electrical engineering analysis and technical support for the planning and operation of the electric power system. Develops tools and procedures to monitor the performance of the electric power system and appropriately reports findings and recommendations. Contributes to ad hoc operational data analysis requests, stakeholder group reporting, and internal and external presentations. This position requires the Operations Engineer to work independently, interact professionally with internal and external personnel of various position levels from individual contributors to senior management, meet deadlines, and work well within a team environment.JOB DUTIESLearns how to use and develop software tools, processes, and procedures that enhance system reliability and departmental/organizational efficienciesParticipates in multifunctional teams to obtain input, address comments and perform studiesMay provide on the job training or help oversee the work of other engineers/analystsMay act as mentor and advisor to less experienced engineers/analystsTypically works independently on assignments and projectsParticipates with other ERCOT departments to select and implement system changes as neededMay coordinate, provide presentations and participate in stakeholder meetings with ERCOT personnel, Market Participants and industry Regulatory agenciesFosters and leverages strong working relationships with team and other internal departmentsDemonstrates skills as an expert user of power system software applications and tools, spreadsheet programs, and database programsMaintains knowledge of emerging trends and industry best practicesPerforms all work according to applicable rules and regulations including regulatory requirements and organization policies and proceduresUnderstands and applies principles, theories and concepts related to the profession and ERCOT's cultureExercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actionImpact is generally limited to specific assignments or projectsMay respond to inquiries and/or provide assistance and/or guidance to lower-level workersEDUCATIONBachelor's Degree: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field (Required)or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required.CERTIFICATIONPE Professional Engineer (Preferred)REQUIRED EXPERIENCESenior level Engineer - Minimum 5 years (in excess of degree requirements stated above) of progressively responsible experience as a power system engineer or similar type role within the electric utility industry.Familiarity with the electric utility industryPREFERRED EXPERIENCEFamiliarity with the ERCOT systemExperience with power flow softwareExperience with SCADA, PMU, or DFR dataExperience working with large data setsExperience querying databasesExperience with using SQLExperience codingSalary and level will be based on overall experience as determined by ERCOT.WORK LOCATION – Taylor, TX:Employees will be required to be on-site in Taylor, TX at minimum 2 days per week, or more, as needed based on the business needs as determined by managementOn-site schedules are flexible or may be rotated based on business needs as determined by the ManagerRemote work is required to be performed from your Texas residence.Employees may opt to work on-site more than required or 100% of the timeThe foregoing description reflects the minimum qualifications and the essential functions of the position that must be performed proficiently with or without reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities.
