JOB SUMMARY

This role leads a team conducting ERCOT’s Independent Reviews of transmission system upgrade projects ranging from $50 million to over $1 billion, while overseeing steady-state power flow contingency analyses and serving as the department’s recognized technical expert. Responsibilities include evaluating Notice of Suspension of Operation (NSO) requests, mentoring engineers and analysts, and collaborating across ERCOT departments to implement system changes and improve departmental processes. The role also communicates analysis results to stakeholders and management, serves as a cross-functional technical, business, and policy resource, and builds strong relationships across the electric utility industry.

JOB DUTIES
  • Leads a team that develops and coordinates the ERCOT Independent Reviews of transmission system upgrades costing from $50 million to over $1 billion by conducting analyses and stakeholder reviews
  • Overseas steady state power flow contingency analyses
  • Serves as the recognized technical expert for the department within and outside the organization
  • Provides on-the-job training, mentoring or oversight of the work of other engineers/analysts as required
  • Responds to executive and management inquiries and special reporting requests
  • Responds to Notice of Suspension of Operation (NSO) requests and ensures complete evaluation of potential System Reliability Need and ensure appropriate exit strategies for Reliability Must Run (RMR) contracts
  • Collaborate with other ERCOT departments to select and implement system changes as needed
  • Communicate results of analyses to appropriate stakeholders, including maintaining regular communication with the management team, providing relevant information to ensure compliance with all applicable requirements
  • Examines, analyzes, and determines efficiency improvements for departmental processes and procedures
  • Serves as the departmental representative on cross-functional teams, proactively providing technical, business, and policy guidance
  • Serves as quality assurance and best practices resource within and outside of the department
  • Build strong professional relationships both internally and externally. Networks with key contacts within and outside the electric utility industry
  • Leads the work of projects and audits as assigned by management
  • May prepare reports and presentations to stakeholder bodies, the ERCOT Board of Directors and regulatory agencies, including preparing testimony
EXPERIENCE

Requires minimum 5 years job related work experience and 1 year in a leadership role preferred in excess of degree requirements. Minimum years of job related experience can include time in leadership roles.

  • Prefer experience programming and developing simulation automation tools (Ex. Python)
  • Prefer experience assisting in the development of improvements to transmission planning processes and familiarity with NERC reliability standards
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s Degree: Electrical Engineering or related field (Required)
  • or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required
CERTIFICATION
  • PE Professional Engineer (Preferred)
