ATI is seeking to hire an Operations Engineer (Process Modeling and Automation) to support our Specialty Rolled Products business unit. This position will be based in Vandergrift, PA.

The Operations Engineer (Process Modeling and Automation) will be responsible for defining, refining, and reviewing the functionality and performance of mission-critical automation and control systems in an industrial environment. These systems include process models, recipes, learning algorithms, and process control logic, supporting both thermal and cold rolling operations. The role involves collaboration with Production, Maintenance, Technical Services, and Process Engineering departments to improve processes, quality, reduce costs, and upgrade automation systems.

Essential Functions
  • Support a capital project to apply process models and automation, including:
  • Define functional requirements with team and vendors
  • Develop commissioning plans
  • Test system performance pre- and post-commissioning
  • Provide documentation and tools for long-term support
  • Manage new model-based manufacturing systems, including:
  • Simulate and implement setups for new products, monitor existing processes
  • Manage learning algorithms to refine plant and product models
  • Provide feedback for regulators in model-based and PLC systems
  • Lead or participate in problem-solving activities and implement solutions
  • Perform data analytics on process events
  • Interact with staff and shop floor personnel as needed
  • Develop best practices within a team of model engineers
  • Share on-call support responsibilities on a rotating basis
Basic Qualifications
  • BSc in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS or PhD in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
  • Background in control theory, mathematical modeling, feedback control, or related fields
  • Experience with process automation and programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, SQL
  • Understanding of SPC and project management skills
