Role Overview:

The Materials Research Institute at Penn State seeks a qualified candidate for a non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor/Researcher position, serving as Operations Manager. The role involves managing a Silicon Carbide Facility, overseeing synthesis, slicing, polishing, and characterization processes, requiring strategic leadership and materials science expertise.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement strategic plans for the Silicon Carbide Facility.
  2. Oversee daily operations including synthesis, slicing, polishing, and characterization of silicon carbide materials.
  3. Lead and mentor a team of 1-3 technical staff members.
  4. Monitor operational metrics, analyze data, and report on performance for process improvements.
  5. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  6. Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate insights into strategic planning.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field for Assistant Research Professor; Master’s for Researcher role.
  • Experience in operations management, preferably in silicon carbide synthesis and processing.
  • Leadership skills with a proven track record.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
