Job summary

Amazon Logistics is seeking an Operations Engineer to lead cross-functional projects across facility networks, from new builds to retrofits and expansions. You will collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver on-time, safe, and efficient solutions, aligning with Amazon's standards.

  • Document meetings, decisions and next steps to ensure alignment with stakeholders.
  • Communicate project status, risk analysis and mitigation plans; provide clear summaries to leadership.
  • Articulate system/equipment designs, including layouts, specifications and capabilities to internal customers.
  • Manage change orders, purchase orders and invoice approvals.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across multiple projects.
  • Identify and lead process improvements to boost engineering efficiency.

As an Amazon Logistics [AMZL] Operations Engineer, you will lead and manage thelifecycle of challenging cross-functional projects, developing and deliveringthe next generation of sortation and distribution solutions. You are a customerobsessed leader that will play an integral part in planning and implementationof the facility network infrastructure including new builds, retrofits,expansions and program initiatives. Partnering with internal customers andinternal/external stakeholders to engage as a team and ensure a timely handoverwill be part of your critical tasks.

Key competencies of this position include insisting on the highest standardsensuring that contracted resources meet schedule, budgetary, safety and drivingquality targets; analyzing and deep diving systems performance, inventing andsimplifying solutions that allow for improved processes and results; andproviding technical expertise to internal customers and stakeholders.

Key job responsibilities
  • Work independently with internal and external teams to successfully manage thelifecycle of the challenging projects, and act as owner in delivering onprojects objectives and targets. Projects may span organizations or geographiesin support of business objectives.
  • Actively participate in firm engineering reviews, and make tangible impact onthe proposed solutions on an individual system or its components, on the overallsystems architecture, and on facility processes .
  • Partner with internal teams, stakeholders and external vendors to set projectpriorities, establish milestones, and drive schedules to meet deadlines.Proactively assess stakeholders’ dependencies and milestones, problem-solve anddrive solutions to mitigate the impact from the issues.
  • Lead and coordinate all execution efforts in delivering systems and automatedequipment designs per established standards and guidelines. Performequipment/systems installation, throughput and safety qualifications. Simplify,optimize, remove bottlenecks and provide feedback while resolving difficultsystem problems or technical deficiencies.
  • Lead effective meetings by setting the objectives, putting the right people inthe room and driving detailed business and technical discussions/alignment.Document meetings discussions, decisions and future steps ensuring alignment onexpectations with internal partner teams and outside vendors.
  • Promptly and accurately communicate project status, risk analysis and riskmitigation plans. Effectively answer project questions in detail, and regularlyproduce clear and concise summaries for the projects to leadership/managementteam.
  • Competently articulate system and/or equipment designs, including layouts,technical specifications and functional capabilities, to internal customers andpartner teams.
  • Efficiently manage change order controls, purchase orders, and invoicevalidation/approvals.
  • Excel at building strong working relationships with internal and externalstakeholders across multiple projects
  • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives that improve the Engineeringand cross-teams’ efficiencies, optimizing the teams’ value and delivery. Throughcollaboration, generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in compressedperiods of time.
  • Travel up to 80% domestically although travel intensity can be variable andconsist of up to three weeks in a row, including weekends.
A day in the life

You are managing quality of implementation through multiple projects that canvary in scope, complexity and duration.

Daily tasks may comprise of site coordination with operations teams andcontractors on project execution activities or changes; deep diving projectprogress, schedule and resources, while identifying barriers, creating solutionsand driving resolutions. You may be facilitating the planning and/orimplementation meetings with projects’ stakeholders, ensuring alignment inobjectives, expectations, and the next steps; you would capture and publishdetailed notes after each meeting to drive ownership and follow-through on theactions and decisions.

Reviewing/approving audit mechanisms and documentation is one of the essentialtasks, and you may be tracking the programmatic week on week installationopportunities with the internal automation teams. You may be brainstorming anddeveloping workaround solutions while mitigating the project delays or designissues. As a part of the acceptance testing you may be performing systemsinstallation quality, safety, throughput and performance qualifications,frequently communicating the progress to internal and external stakeholders.

In addition, you may be supporting/training other engineering team members,utilizing the knowledge of Amazon’s safety, mechanical, electrical and controlsinstallation standard and guidelines.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree
  • Work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
  • Experience in material handling equipment (MHE) or automation environments, orexperience in reliability/maintenance environments
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams across engineering, operations, andfield execution through launch readiness and go-live phases
  • Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, REVIT, BIM 360, etc.)
  • Experience leading large-scale programs/projects
  • Experience managing cross-functional projects and initiatives
  • 3+ years of experience as a project engineer, process engineer, projectmanager, manufacturing engineer, or related occupation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, VBA, and SQL at the intermediate level
  • Knowledge of performance metrics such as OEE (Overall EquipmentEffectiveness), downtime, throughput, or quality
  • Experience working with and managing third party vendors
  • Experience with Six Sigma, lean manufacturing
  • Experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience with retrofits, launches, or automation deployments
  • Experience building launch readiness frameworks, standard work, playbooks, andscalable deployment mechanisms across multiple concurrent sites

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon packagewill include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Finalcompensation will be determined based on factors including experience,qualifications, and location.
