Job summary

Insight Global is seeking an Operations Engineer to support a leading drilling organization. The role combines hands-on field work with office collaboration to address equipment challenges and drive improvements across surface drilling assets.

The ideal candidate has substantial field experience on drilling rigs or heavy industrial equipment, strong engineering fundamentals, and comfort moving between office, shop, and yard environments. This is a full-time, Houston-based position.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in drilling environments.
• 5+ years of 3D design using Autodesk Inventor (preferred) or SolidWorks.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with operations teams, field personnel, and stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, industrial equipment, and engineering calculations.

Responsibilities

• Perform rig modifications and equipment upgrades.

This hands-on engineering role will focus on rig modifications, equipment upgrades, capital projects, and day-to-day operational support. The successful candidate will work closely with operations teams, equipment managers, and engineers to solve equipment challenges, support field operations, and drive engineering improvements across surface drilling assets.

This is not a purely design-focused position. The ideal candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals with practical field experience and is comfortable moving between the office, shop, and yard environments. They will be responsible for balancing multiple priorities, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, and delivering practical solutions to complex operational challenges. Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are critical for success. Candidates with experience working directly on drilling rigs or heavy industrial equipment before transitioning into engineering will be highly regarded, as they bring an understanding of both the technical and operational realities of the field. This is a full time role based out of Houston with the expectation to be in office 5 days per week.
