Precision Drilling is seeking a Senior Drilling Engineer in Houston to work closely with customers and internal teams to understand objectives and deliver high-value drilling solutions.

You will guide drilling programs, analyze performance, and support deployment of new technologies across U.S. operations. The role emphasizes collaboration, data-driven decision making, and field immersion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Petroleum preferred) with 10–15 years of Houston-based E&P experience.
  • Experience with data analytics and reporting is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of drilling practices, down-hole tools, and hydraulics.

Responsibilities

  • Understand customer drilling challenges and identify technologies to provide value.
  • Collaborate with customers to define objectives and performance goals of drilling programs.
  • Engage in well planning and drilling performance discussions to identify opportunities and barriers.
  • Support performance improvement through engineering analysis and analytics.
  • Assist in deploying new technologies with rig automation teams.

  • Recognize trends in real-time data to improve performance or mitigate hazards.
  • Travel to field locations to support customer performance improvements.
  • Monitor active drilling projects to seek value delivery opportunities.

Summary

The Senior Drilling Engineer supports our service offering by working closely with the Customer, Technology & Support Teams, Sales, Finance and Operations to gain a thorough understanding of the customer’s objectives and ensure Precision delivers high performance high value across U.S. operations.

Responsibilities
  • Understand our customer’s drilling challenges and identify specific technologies to provide value focused solutions
  • Work closely with our customers to understand objectives and performance goals of drilling programs
  • Work closely with customers in well planning and drilling performance discussions to highlight opportunities and identify barriers to success
  • Support customer performance improvement initiatives through engineering analysis and analytics
  • Work closely with customer and rig automation team to support deployment of new technologies
  • Support the development of new applications by integrating customer feedback with well construction and drilling engineering best practices
  • Recognize trends in real-time data which relate to improvement opportunities or health of the well and the avoidance of drilling hazards
  • Travel to field locations and meet with customers as required to support performance improvement efforts
  • Monitor active drilling projects seeking opportunities to deliver value to our customers
Knowledge & Skills
  • Advanced understanding of the fundamentals of drilling practices and procedures
  • Advanced understanding of down-hole tools and technology
  • Advanced understanding of directional drilling practices
  • Advanced engineering analysis skills in torque/drag, drill string design, and hydraulics.
  • Advanced ability to interpret changes in multiple time and/or depth-based measurements and how it can be used to recognize improvement opportunities or mitigate hazards
  • Intermediate understanding of data acquisition systems, measurement devices, data transmission, wellsite data sources and transmission times
  • Advanced understanding of data analytics tools and approaches.
  • Intermediate understanding of all aspects of well construction process.
  • Self-starter who can function in an autonomous leadership role.
  • Ability and willingness to learn through practical on the job training (both office and field)
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Contribute to sustaining a positive, progressive, and supportive team environment
  • Basic knowledge in database fundamentals considered an asset
  • Ability to tell a story by drawing meaningful information from large datasets
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Petroleum Engineering however will consider others
  • 10-15 years related experience working for a Houston-based E&P company
  • Experience with data analytics and reporting is an asset
