SIMCO, LLC, the managing and operating contractor for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, seeks an Operations Engineer in Carlsbad, NM. You will support Readiness Assessments, startup planning, and coordination across teams, ensuring TSR compliance and DOE order alignment.

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as an Operations Engineer and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of Operations and an understanding of the Startup process per the DOE order 425.1D. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting Readiness Assessments, Contractor Readiness Assessment (CRA) and Contractor Operational Readiness Review (CORR) teams, and coordinating plant readiness for startup actions. The successful candidate will assist in completing activities during Readiness Reviews and implementations including, scheduling activities, equipment walk downs, initial procedure and training development, coordination of response to Readiness Review findings and observations. The candidate will also be required to represent the group in organization and schedule meetings by representing adequate plant knowledge, startup impacts, operations impacts, and possess Technical Safety Requirement (TSR) knowledge. Underground walk downs may be required dependent on project needs. The Operations Readiness Engineer will report to the Operations Readiness Manager.

Definition of Experience: Preference given to candidates with previous operations and operations start up experience.
Demonstrated experience with achieving authorization to operate nuclear operations is desired.
In depth knowledge of DOE Order 425.1D, and DOE standard 3006-2010 is preferred.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with Documented Safety Analysis’s and in-depth knowledge of the application of Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs).
Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
$82,382 to $145,184 per year. Exempt grade level(s) 30-32. The specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
