Job summary

Merck is seeking a Clinical Services Operations Coordinator in West Point, PA, to provide world-class animal care and support drug development efforts. You will contribute to interdepartmental collaborations within R&D and assist with reports, SOPs, and staff training.

The role requires a minimum bachelor’s degree in biology/chemistry or related field by June 2027, with preference for an MS in biology or related in vivo field and 5 years of in vivo management experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree completed by June 2027 in Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
  • MS in Biology or related in vivo field is preferred.
  • 5 years in a Research Laboratory in vivo management is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to interdepartmental collaborations with R&D teams.
  • Assists with managerial reports (census, facility records).
  • Communicates effectively with staff and researchers, in writing and verbally.
  • Trains departmental staff in specific activities and SOPs.
  • Manages husbandry equipment and trains employees in operation.
  • Assists with processing orders of animals to meet research needs.
  • Develops and implements equipment and process validation programs.
  • Maintains source and transaction records in compliance with regulations.
  • Rotational weekend and holiday duty.

Job Description

The Clinical Services Operations Coordinator, under the guidance of a West Point laboratory animal resources husbandry operations, works to provide world class animal care to impact drug development and discovery and improve human health.



Contributions Include


  • Contributes to interdepartmental collaborations with other members of our Research & Development division community.

  • Assists with managerial reports as required (census, facility records)

  • Communicates effectively, both verbal and written, with departmental and research staff.

  • Assumes an assistant role in training of departmental staff in specific activities.

  • Provides guidance to husbandry staff in conjunction with line management.

  • Assists with the processing of orders of animals to meet research needs.

  • In collaboration with other LAR personnel assists with the development and implementation of equipment and process validation programs. This includes but is not limited to, the validation of sanitation procedures, water testing, airborne particulate analysis, and temperature and light level testing and validation.

  • Maintains animal source and transaction records in compliance with our Company, state and federal requirements. Assists with development, implementation, and monitoring of SOPs for daily activities.

  • Manages husbandry equipment including rack washers, bottle washers, Tunnels washers, automated bedding systems and bulk sterilizers, and trains employees in their operation.

  • Is included in rotational weekend and holiday duty.



Education Minimum Requirement


  • Required: candidate must have completed a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field by June 2027

  • This is a full time position with a start date of June 2027



Required Experience and Skills


  • Experience in a Research / in vivo field; functional in-person internship / job shadow experience will be considered.



Preferred Experience And Skills


  • Preferred: MS in Biology or related in vivo field

  • 5 year experience in a Research Laboratory in vivo management

  • ALAT, AAALAS certification

The salary range for this role is



  • $87,300.00 - $137,400.00


This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, government requirements, and business or organizational needs.


The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive, if applicable.
