Job summary

Memorial Park Conservancy is seeking a Caretaking & Cleaning Coordinator to lead daily maintenance across park facilities, amenities, and public spaces. The role requires coordinating custodial teams, prioritizing tasks, and maintaining safety and cleanliness standards for visitors.

The position reports to the Caretaking & Cleaning Supervisor, with on-site work at Memorial Park. Full-time schedule may include early shifts, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of professional experience in park operations or custodial services.
• Knowledge of custodial operations, public facility care, and park cleanliness standards.
• Experience safely operating tools, small equipment, and park vehicles.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital work order or asset management systems.
• Valid Texas driver’s license.

Position Summary

The Caretaking & Cleaning Coordinator advances the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of Memorial Park’s facilities, amenities, and public-use areas by leading daily caretaking and cleaning operations within assigned park areas. This role prioritizes operational tasks, exercises independent judgment in responding to site conditions, and coordinates team members to implement established custodial and park cleanliness standards.

This role reports to the Caretaking & Cleaning Supervisor.

• Work Location: On-site at Memorial Park
• Schedule: Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday at 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM; occasional evenings and weekends required based on operational needs (seasonal adjustments may apply)
• Employment Status: Full-Time
• FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Key Responsibilities

Caretaking & Cleaning Operations

• Implement caretaking and cleaning maintenance practices including restroom and facility cleaning, waste and recycling collection, litter removal, trail and pathway upkeep, and maintenance of park amenities.
• Inspect park facilities, restrooms, trails, and public-use areas to ensure safe, clean, and functional park environments.
• Evaluate site conditions and prioritize maintenance activities to support park cleanliness and visitor experience standards.
• Coordinate completion of routine cleaning schedules, inspections, and minor maintenance activities.
• Ensure accurate documentation of operational activities, inspections, and work orders using established tracking systems.
• Assist with monitoring inventory of cleaning supplies, equipment, and operational materials and communicate replenishment needs.

Team Leadership & Coordination

• Lead and prioritize daily field activities within assigned areas.
• Provide on-site direction and technical guidance to Technicians, seasonal staff, and volunteers.
• Safely operate and provide training on assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles required to support field operations.
• Coordinate workflow to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
• Provide field-level performance feedback and communicate performance observations or personnel concerns to the Supervisor for appropriate follow-up.
• Communicate operational needs, emerging conditions, and performance observations.

Safety & Operational Standards

• Interact with park visitors in a courteous and professional manner and model service standards.
• Reinforce safe work practices and proper equipment use among team members.
• Support compliance with safety policies and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Elevate safety concerns and operational risks to the Supervisor.
• Lead volunteer activities and support special events as needed.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Three (3) or more years of professional experience in park operations, custodial operations, facilities maintenance, or related field; leadership experience preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of custodial operations, public facility care, and park cleanliness standards.
• Experience safely operating operational tools, small equipment, and park vehicles.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital work order or asset management systems.
• Valid Texas driver’s license.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
• Capacity to bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and stand for extended periods.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a repetitive basis.
• Safely operate motorized vehicles and power equipment.
• Work safely in high-traffic public environments.
• Perform work at heights following required safety training.
