ONEOK is seeking an Operations Controller to support safe and efficient pipeline operations from the Plaza in Tulsa, OK. This on-site role uses SCADA, forecasting tools, and communications systems to manage pressures, flows, and system quality across transmission, gathering, storage and processing assets.

The position requires a rotating 12-hour schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and some holidays to sustain 24/7/365 operations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control gas or NGL flow using SCADA and forecasting tools.

  • Identify and resolve communication problems affecting operations.
  • Take action to minimize pressure drops during abnormal events.
  • Monitor gas/liquid quality and respond to changes.
  • Verify receipts, deliveries, storage injections/withdrawals, and loads.
  • Prepare and post start/stop flows, reliefs, and change notices.
  • Communicate operational info to field personnel and schedulers.

JOB SUMMARY

ONEOK is seeking an Operations Controller to support the safe, reliable, compliant, and efficient operation of our natural gas liquids pipeline systems from the Plaza in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This role monitors and controls pipeline system operations using SCADA, computer applications, forecasting tools, and communication systems to help maintain appropriate pressures, flows, system quality, and operational response across transmission, gathering, storage, distribution, and processing assets. This position is based on-site at ONEOK’s Plaza location in Tulsa, OK and works a modified DuPont rotating shift schedule, including 12-hour day and night shifts, rotating weekends, and some holidays to support 24/7/365 operations. The ideal candidate will be a dependable, self-motivated go-getter who communicates clearly, works effectively across disciplines, and brings a high level of honesty, transparency, humility, and professionalism to a highly collaborative control room environment. While pipeline control, SCADA, natural gas or natural gas liquids operations, forecasting, reporting, and emergency communication experience are valuable, success in this role will also depend heavily on team fit, adaptability, sound judgment, and comfort working a rotating shift schedule in a safety-critical environment.

Job Profile Summary

Monitors, adjusts and/or controls flow of gas or natural gas liquids through the pipeline system in a safe, reliable, compliant and efficient manner. This includes distribution, transmission, gathering, storage and processing systems.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Utilize computers and SCADA digital displays to determine sufficient operating pressures and to monitor and direct flow of natural gas or gas liquids though pipeline system Determine load requirements using company approved forecasting model.
  • Compare this forecast to forecasts based on analysis of current and predicted weather conditions, current system conditions, and operating objectives
  • Analyze and assist in identification and resolution of communication problems.
  • Take appropriate action to minimize drastic reductions in pressure caused by line breaks or other unusual occurrences
  • Monitor system gas or liquid quality and take appropriate action in response to changes
  • Calculate and/or verify the following, including but not limited to: Receipts Deliveries Storage injections and withdrawals Pipeline system load requirements Transportation imbalances
  • Compile, prepare, and/or post information including but not limited to: Start/stop of receipt/delivery flows and compressors or pumps Storage injection and withdrawal requests Field personnel call-outs Nomination confirmations and changes Gas quality issues Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) communication problems
  • Communicate information and/or instructions related to system operations and contractual obligations to company field personnel, schedulers, and pipeline controllers from other companies
  • Utilize the ONEOK Communication System (OCS) for the following: Emergency/non-emergency communication Setting up conference bridge One-Call center line locates
  • Train employees in performance of duties related to system operations
  • Responsibilities may include Department of Transportation (DOT) covered functions, including operations, maintenance, or emergency response on a pipeline.
  • Job duties also require the employee to be alert and respond immediately to dangerous or hazardous conditions, and where impaired performance, or failure to follow safety precautions, could result in serious injury or property damage.

Experience with pipeline control functions, computer programs, and equipment applicable to pipeline system control operations Experience monitoring pressures, volumes, and control points to maintain adequate gas or natural gas liquid flow Experience with and thorough knowledge of natural gas or natural gas liquid pipeline operations Experience in use and function of office equipment applicable to position including computers Experience and/or training related to: Basic programming/computer applications and hardware/SCADA systems Company and governmental operating/safety procedures Weather forecasting Experience compiling and preparing reports, logs, and correspondence Experience interacting, advising, training and communicating effectively
