Job summary

Barnard College is seeking an Associate Controller, Operations to lead the College's core financial processes, including payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, travel and expense, and related payment workflows. The role ensures timely, accurate processing and strong internal controls across high-volume transactions.

Reporting to the Controller, you will supervise operational finance staff, coordinate with HR and IT, and drive process improvements, SOPs, and the monthly/annual close.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting/financial operations experience.
• Experience supervising staff and operational workflows.
• Experience with payroll, AP, and high-volume transactions.
• CPA or related certification preferred.
• Experience with Workday Finance or ERP systems.
• Knowledge of internal controls and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead operational finance processes including payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, travel and expense.
• Oversee payroll operations and coordination with outsourced service provider.
• Supervise purchasing and accounts payable operations and vendor payments.
• Coordinate monthly and annual financial close and ensure timely reporting.
• Develop SOPs and RACIs, strengthen internal controls.
• Mentor and develop operational finance staff.
