We are a fast-growing, innovative consumer products company. This newly created position is focused on inventory, distribution, and logistics management. The Operations Controller will work closely with both the Commercial and Operations teams to support the ongoing decision-making requirements of the organization.
The Operations Controller serves as the analytical backbone of our fulfillment and logistics network. This role focuses on maximizing operational efficiency and profitability by translating complex Sales, Inventory and Freight data into actionable operational strategies. This position acts as a data-driven controller who monitors inventory velocity, distribution throughput, carrier performance, and cost per order (CPO). The ideal candidate uses advanced data analytics to eliminate supply chain leakage, optimize multi-node distribution networks, and scale our distribution operations.
Core Responsibilities
Inventory Velocity & Demand Analysis
- Analyze stock levels and supplier capacity across our fulfillment network to ensure optimal inventory placement and minimize out-of-stock or overstock scenarios.
- Monitor SKU-level inventory velocity, identifying high-demand items and flagging slow-moving or obsolete inventory (SLOB) to recommend strategic markdown or liquidation strategies.
- Track, audit, and analyze shrinkage, returns, and damages, executing root-cause analyses on inventory discrepancies between the ERP and the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
- Partner with the Demand Planning and Marketing teams to model operational capacity requirements ahead of peak seasons, flash sales, and product launches.
- Develop, own, and report on key fulfillment performance metrics, including order cycle time, pick-and-pack accuracy, labor utilization, and cost-per-shipped-line.
- Benchmark and audit the operational performance and SLAs of internal fulfillment centers and third-party logistics (3PL) partners.
- Conduct continuous cost-to-serve analysis to evaluate the efficiency of our warehouse network layout, zoning, and automation tools.
- Design data models to simulate the operational impact of adding new fulfillment nodes or adopting alternative picking methods.
- Analyze end-to-end transportation data—from inbound container freight to final-mile parcel delivery—to identify cost-reduction and zone-skipping opportunities.
- Build and maintain interactive dashboards tracking carrier performance metrics, such as on-time delivery rates, transit times, and tender acceptance.
- Perform rigorous freight audits on parcel shipping invoices to detect billing errors, duplicate charges, or unearned accessorial fees (e.g., residential surcharges, address corrections).
- Manage landed cost models by continuously evaluating parcel rate structures, fuel surcharges, and regional carrier options during annual RFP processes.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business analytics, supply chain management, logistics, accounting, finance, or another highly quantitative field, such as statistics or industrial engineering.
- Experience: Minimum of 4–6 years of experience in a distribution environment, with a heavy focus on operations analysis, inventory planning, and logistics data.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in SQL for data extraction and data manipulation is highly preferred. High-level mastery of data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or Looker) and advanced Microsoft (Excel/PowerPoint).
- Systems Experience: Practical experience working with major ERP, WMS, and carrier shipping software
- Data-to-Insight Translation: The ability to mine large, messy operational datasets and distill them into clear, actionable executive summaries and operational recommendations.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Exceptional communication skills to partner seamlessly with commercial, operational and finance teams.
