Job summary

The Vermont Foodbank, Inc. in Barre, VT is seeking an Operations Associate – CDL Driver to safely operate Foodbank vehicles on local routes, load and unload, and support daily distribution to Vermont communities. This temporary role begins in October and requires a Class B CDL and safety focus.

What you’ll do:
  • Safely operate Foodbank vehicles across Vermont, local routes, home daily.
  • Load/unload, distribute food product, work with volunteers + staff to deliver service.
  • Engage with community members of diverse backgrounds, your role matters.
  • Support warehouse logistics: product storage, equipment movement, food reclamation.
  • Collaborate with Warehouse, Facilities and Community Impact teams.

Supervisor’s Title: Director-Branch Operations

Position Purpose:

This temporary position reports to the Director-Branch Operations. The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: driving, distributing, loading, and unloading Vermont Foodbank vehicles safely at various communities in Vermont. In addition to these primary responsibilities, this position regularly interacts with community members with diverse backgrounds and stories. This position will provide support at multiple distribution sites across the state and will work alongside volunteers ensuring the safe handling of products and creating a positive experience for those seeking Vermont Foodbank services. This position is regularly called upon to support general warehouse activities, which may include food reclamation activities, storage and moving of product and equipment, and other various tasks. This position will work closely with the Warehouse and Facilities teams and members of the Community Impact Department.Building equity and social justice into Vermont Foodbank’s organizational practices is everyone’s responsibility, and it requires the commitment and collaboration of every employee and team. Global Functions and Responsibilities
  • Work cooperatively with staff and volunteers to support the mission of the Foodbank to meet and sustain organizational goals.
  • Positively contribute to an organizational culture of safe and secure food handling, warehousing and distribution.
  • The foodbank relies on volunteers everyday to fulfill our mission. All Foodbank employees must support our culture of philanthropy by treating every volunteer with appreciation and respect.
  • This position will occasionally be required to travel to other Foodbank locations and to attend required meetings, trainings, etc. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the proper sanitary and safe warehousing of all products in accordance with Feeding America and Vermont Foodbank guidelines.
  • Efficiently and safely pick up and deliver products as assigned
  • Complete appropriate paperwork to maintain accurate inventory.
  • Assist with warehouse operations as necessary including, but not limited to; picking orders, agency pick-ups, receiving, and sort room activities
  • Maintain vehicles in a high state of cleanliness.
  • Maintain a neat personal appearance, professionalism in all interactions with other staff, the public, and the participants the Foodbank serves.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures in the fleet safety booklet regarding reporting accidents, daily vehicle checks, completing associated paperwork, substance abuse, and more.
  • Collaborate with warehouse team to determine incoming and outgoing inventory.
  • Take part during physical inventory.
Other Functions:
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director-Branch Operations.
  • Attend Organizational learning days and other meetings as appropriate
Skills/Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
  • Experience in driving large straight/semi-trucks in a food-related industry, material handling equipment, Customer service, or related experience preferred.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent skills required.
Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Flexible hours required.
  • Organized with an attention to detail
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift a minimum of 45 pounds.
Language Skills:
  • Experience communicating effectively with diverse groups of people
Technical/Computer Skills:
  • Basic telephone & computer skills.
Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:
  • A valid Commercial Driver’s License (class B).
  • Current DOT medical card.
  • 3-year motor vehicle report (MVR) showing a clean driving record.
  • ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain.
  • Satisfactory background check
