Opportunity Summary
Based at AMP Bowling Green in Bowling Green, OH, the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Supervisor supports American Municipal Power’s (AMP) Distributed Generation fleet, which includes 44 generating units across 17 AMP sites. This diverse portfolio, including combustion turbines, diesel engines, and a solar unit, requires focused oversight to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. The O&M Supervisor oversees daily plant activities, directs personnel, implements maintenance strategies, and ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. This role also supports outage planning, employee development, and reporting, while fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement aligned with AMP’s operational goals.
Your scope of responsibility as O&M Supervisor will include the following primary functions:
Operations and Performance Monitoring
- Oversee and direct the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all Distributed Generation assets across AMP’s 17sites, including combustion turbines, diesel reciprocating engines, and solar generation.
- Monitor system performance and equipment status using SCADA or local tools to ensure dispatch readiness, asset availability, and schedule adherence, taking corrective action as needed.
- Develop, implement, and communicate strategies that optimize equipment performance while ensuring compliance with regulations and alignment with AMP’s production and capacity goals.
- Analyze operational data across all technologies to identify trends, address underperformance, and lead initiatives that reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
Maintenance and Risk Management
- Lead and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance for mechanical, electrical, and control systems across the fleet, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date maintenance records—including run hours, outage logs, maintenance histories, and parts usage—to support reporting, audits, and long-term planning.
- Oversee outage and overhaul planning for rotating and reciprocating equipment, managing resources, timelines, and contingency plans to minimize downtime.
- Administer and enforce compliance with environmental, safety, health, and regulatory programs—including Safety, Operations, NERC Compliance, Maintenance, Training, Chemistry, and Environmental QA/QC—to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
- Identify risks related to equipment failures, personnel safety, and grid stability; develop and maintain emergency response protocols, ensuring team readiness.
Supervisory Leadership and Training Oversight
- Define plant training objectives, assess employee development needs, and oversee training and qualification programs with the Operations Director and NAES HR to ensure personnel understand and follow procedures consistently.
- Supervise and support field personnel responsible for daily operations and maintenance of DG assets, fostering high morale, motivation, and adherence to safety and quality standards through effective leadership and communication.
- Enforce strict implementation of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, and other safety procedures to ensure ongoing compliance and readiness.
- Assist with budget preparation and management, monitor O&M expenditures, and coordinate procurement of parts, tools, and contracted services for fleet support.
- Serve as a key liaison among AMP staff, utilities, vendors, and contractors to facilitate coordinated support, clear communication, and alignment with goals.
- Write, review, and maintain standard operating procedures and work instructions to ensure safe, compliant, and consistent practices across all sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned, actively supporting plant operations and contributing to overall success.

- Conduct safety observation tours of high-risk activities (e.g., confined space) to verify that employees are following safe practices, company procedures, and OSHA regulations.
- Hold one-on-one sessions with direct reports to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations, and coach safe behaviors.
- Respond to all safety-related incidents, including injuries, incidents, and near misses; write a report explaining what happened, identify the cause, and recommend corrective actions based on established business unit or division practices. Follow up as necessary to ensure corrective actions are taken.
Working Relationships
The O&M Supervisor reports to the Operations Director and is responsible for overseeing O&M personnel, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant and its related processes.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.
Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
The regular work schedule follows a Monday through Friday workweek during standard day shift hours. This position will occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required. Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.
