Job summary

Fort Bend Women’s Center in Richmond, TX is seeking a Residential Advocate to support shelter operations and provide a safe, supportive environment for residents. This role requires compassion, adaptability, and the ability to respond effectively in crises while maintaining professionalism and strong boundaries.

The Residential Advocate’s duties include crisis response, documenting accurately, assisting with volunteer coordination, and upholding the center’s trauma-informed, client-centered

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
  • Experience in residential advocacy or human services is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and current auto insurance.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to crises, including hotline calls and crisis intervention.
  • Ensure safety and respectful treatment of shelter residents.
  • Complete onboarding, shelter tours, and welcome kits.
  • Maintain documentation, logs, and shift reports.
  • Monitor shelter conditions and cleanliness; manage room status.
  • Assist with volunteer coordination and shelter events.
  • Support daily operations, kitchen duties, and supply distribution.
  • Communicate effectively with team during handoffs and meetings.
  • Monitor security cameras as needed; transport clients locally.
  • Handle inquiries and donations; promote trauma-informed care.

Position Summary

The Residential Advocate plays a vital role in supporting shelter operations and ensuring a safe, supportive environment for residents. This position requires compassion, adaptability, and the ability to respond effectively in crises while maintaining professionalism and strong boundaries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to crises, including answering hotline calls and providing crisis intervention
  • Ensure the safety, well-being, and respectful treatment of all shelter residents
  • Complete new client onboarding, including shelter tours and welcome kits
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, logs, and shift reports
  • Monitor shelter conditions, ensuring cleanliness and organization of all spaces
  • Perform routine room inspections and maintain accurate room status updates
  • Assist with volunteer coordination and shelter-related events
  • Support daily shelter operations, including kitchen assistance and supply distribution
  • Communicate effectively with team members, including shift handoffs and weekly meetings
  • Monitor security cameras as needed in accordance with policy
  • Transport clients locally as required
  • Handle incoming calls, inquiries, and donation coordination
  • Promote a trauma-informed, client-centered, and strengths-based environment
  • Uphold agency core values: Service, Passion, Integrity, Respect, Innovation, and Teamwork
  • Perform other duties as assigned
