Job summary

Ergon Refining, Inc. in Vicksburg, MS is seeking an Operational Excellence Engineer to drive continuous improvement across safety, environmental, and process disciplines. The role focuses on incident investigations, KPI development, and cross-functional collaboration to raise performance and compliance.

The successful candidate will lead multi-disciplinary teams, apply proven investigation methodologies, and promote learning and best practices throughout the site and organization.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in engineering.
• Five years of engineering experience in refining or chemical processing preferred.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
• Familiar with incident investigations methodologies (e.g., Cause Mapping, Learning Teams).
• Knowledge of OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and related regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for Operational Excellence (OE) projects and initiatives.
• Develop, review, and report OE KPIs with OE element owners.
• Lead major incident investigations and facilitate learning teams to identify causal factors and improvement opportunities.
• Coordinate support for other minor investigations and ensure quality of all investigations.
• Provide oversight of timely completion of action items from investigations.
• Educate employees on incident investigation methodologies and best practices.
• Identify and publish best practices and lessons learned across site and organization.
• Drive the site toward Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) integration as HOP Champion.
• Analyze potential fire, release, explosion, and dispersion scenarios to mitigate events.
• Contribute to design, installation, and maintenance of fire detection/suppression systems.
• Support Management of Change (MOC) and PreStartup Safety Reviews (PSSR) as needed.
