Job summary

Armed Services YMCA is seeking an Op Hero Facilitator to implement and run the Op Hero program for 8-12 elementary students (grades 2-5) identified as at-risk. This is a part-time, contract position with 13 weeks at 13 hours per week plus a prep week.

Responsibilities include following the facilitator guide, maintaining attendance, preparing materials, submitting weekly reports, and ensuring safety, with training and background checks required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience with children in group settings is preferred.
• Military affiliation (active, retired, spouse, dependent, etc) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Op Hero lessons using the Facilitator Guide.
• Incorporate ASYMCA values into activities.
• Prepare journals, folders and classroom tools before sessions.
• Maintain attendance and report to Branch Director.
• Follow child abuse reporting procedures.
• Assist with snacks as per guidelines.

Job Title: Operation Hero (Op Hero) Facilitator

Reports To: CYP Director

Classification: Part-time, Contract (13 weeks/13 hours per week; 2x’s per year)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Purpose:

Responsible for the implementation and facilitation of the Op Hero program for a group of eight to twelve elementary school age children. Candidates must commit to completing the twelve-week program. There is an additional week of prep/training prior to implementation. This program targets school-age children, grades 2-5, who have been identified by parents or school personnel as at-risk, exhibiting low self-esteem or having difficulty adjusting either academically or socially in the school environment.

Functions and Duties:

1. Program and Services Management

• Responsible for undertaking the self-paced Op Hero tutorial program to understand its purpose and delivery.

• Execute pre-planned lesson plans based on the Armed Services YMCA Op Hero Facilitator Guide.

• Incorporate the ASYMCA core values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty into each lesson plan.

• Prepares journals, folders, place cards, and other classroom tools prior to the start of the program.

• Follows all Child Abuse reporting procedures.

• Serve snacks according to program guidelines.

2. Administrative Responsibilities

• Be familiar with each participant’s registration file to understand the basis for the referral and family situation.

• Maintains attendance for program participants, communicating with Branch Director for any issues that may arise.

• Turn in behavior and incident logs for each participant to Branch Director when necessary

• Communicates with Branch Director regarding classroom rosters and attendance.

• Turn in on time the Op Hero Weekly Report to the Branch Director.

• Create and coordinate graduation materials as outlined in the OP Guide.

3. Financial Responsibilities

• N/A

4. Attendance/Administration

• Arrives on time daily as scheduled.

• Attends all mandatory training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled.

• Demonstrates an understanding and proper use of the chain of command when addressing situations and concerns.

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $17.50-$18.00 per hour depending on experience

Schedule: Dependent on location and school dismissal

6. Facility and Equipment Management

• Maintain school-provided classroom in an orderly manner.

• Organize, sanitizes and stores materials daily to ensure order.

• Ensures toys and equipment are kept in good working order, notifying Branch Director when toys/equipment need to be replaced due to unsafe conditions.

• Request needed supplies (to include a low cost snack) in a timely manner to the Branch Director.

7. Other duties as assigned by the Branch Director

Working Conditions:

• Classroom/Group Setting.

• Ability to stand and sit throughout the class in order to interact with the children.

Required Qualifications:

• Any degree (or currently working towards a degree) in Education or related Human Services field.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Experience working with children in a group setting.

Desired Qualifications:

• Specialization in Literacy education.

• Experience teaching children with minor learning difficulties and minor behavior issues.

Requirements:

• Pass a criminal background check.

• Proof of a TB clearance/test within the past 12 months. If test is positive, documentation of treatment plan is required.

• Adult/Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification training completed within 90 days of hire date, and annually thereafter.

• Completion of required on-line training courses within 30 days of hire date.

• Annual medical certification from PCM.

• Annual flu shot documentation.

• May occasionally be expected to work at special events outside normal working hours, including some weekends, and/or evening
