Job description

KLH Capital is seeking a high-performing accounting and systems professional to join our Operating Team. Title and level will be commensurate with experience. This role reports directly to the Senior Finance Operating Partner and is designed for a detail-oriented, execution-focused individual who thrives in a fast-moving, multi-entity private equity environment.

This is a hands-on role working directly on the day-to-day accounting and systems operations across the KLH portfolio — from post-close transaction accounting and monthly reporting to treasury optimization, risk management, and process improvement. The ideal candidate is technically strong, operationally capable, and equally comfortable working with portco teams (CFOs, controller, systems, operations, among other key functions) as they are presenting findings to the deal team.

Responsibilities

The position includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:

  • Provide technical accounting expertise, advice, and coordination to portfolio companies and their CFOs and Controllers, ensuring consistent application of GAAP accounting principles and practices across the portfolio.
  • Support relationships with external auditors and coordinate with portfolio companies to ensure timely and accurate audit delivery, promoting effective communication and collaboration.
  • Support the monthly financial close process for all portfolio companies, ensuring consistent financial statement reporting and delivery of key performance indicators (KPIs) to the deal teams.
  • Review monthly portfolio company reporting packages and provide follow up questions to the CFOs and Controllers. Provide deal teams with any relevant trends and watch items. Candidate expected to utilize AI tools and automations for efficiency.
  • Maintain and update the KLH annual tax checklist across all portfolio entities; support portfolio company CFOs in addressing ongoing tax compliance, planning, and risk mitigation by coordinating with KLH’s external tax professionals.
Transaction & Post-Close Accounting
  • Assist with post-close accounting workstreams, including purchase-price journal entries, working-capital true-ups, and opening/closing balance sheet preparation and reconciliation.
  • Assist with IRS Form 8594 and 8832 filings and coordinate with deal teams on seller final tax return obligations.
  • Support acquisition due diligence by providing accounting and financial analysis to deal teams during the evaluation of new investment opportunities and add-on acquisitions.
  • Maintain and apply the Integration Checklist for add-on acquisitions, ensuring smooth financial onboarding of acquired entities.
  • Coordinate fixed asset appraisal work (Marshall Stevens) post-close; perform weighted average useful life analysis by asset class and incorporate results into depreciation schedules.
  • Complete ASC 842 lease accounting entries, adjustments, and fair market value office lease analyses in connection with acquisitions and ongoing portfolio management.
Value Creation & Process Improvement
  • Contribute to Value Creation Plans (VCPs) and 100-day plans for newly acquired companies, identifying finance and accounting-specific priorities and tracking progress against milestones.
  • Conduct pre-close evaluations of target company accounting and finance teams, systems, and processes; prepare formal assessments and transition recommendations.
  • Review and formally assess portco accounting teams post-close; identify gaps, recommend upgrades or restructuring, and support talent development in coordination with the Senior Finance Operating Partner.
  • Identify and execute finance and accounting robotic process automation (RPA) opportunities across the portfolio.
Systems & Technology
  • Support ERP implementation and optimization projects at portfolio companies, providing financial process design input and ensuring system configurations align with close and reporting requirements; serve as the day-to-day project resource coordinating between portco teams, vendors, and the Senior Finance Operating Partner.
  • Maintain familiarity with the accounting and reporting systems in use across the portfolio (NetSuite, Sage, QuickBooks, and similar platforms); flag upgrade or migration needs and assist portco CFOs in evaluating options.
  • Identify and execute finance and accounting robotic process automation (RPA) and AI opportunities across the portfolio, with a focus on close automation, reconciliation workflows, and management reporting.
  • Support corporate card and treasury platform implementations (Ramp, CorPay, Rho) at portfolio companies; evaluate fit, coordinate rollouts, and support training and adoption.
  • Conduct pre-close evaluations of target company accounting systems and technology infrastructure; document findings and prepare transition recommendations for deal and operating teams.
  • Maintain and apply the Integration Checklist for add-on acquisitions, ensuring consistent and timely onboarding of acquired entities onto KLH-standard systems and reporting frameworks.
Fund-Level Finance & Treasury
  • Assist with management fee calculations, dividend distributions, and interest payments across portfolio entities and fund vehicles; ensure accuracy and timeliness of all fund-level cash flows.
  • Support treasury and cash management improvements across the portfolio, including cash forecasting automation and accounts payable optimization initiatives.
  • Assist with payroll and vendor system changes across portfolio companies, including transitions to new platforms and process standardization.
  • Maintain registered agent compliance across the portfolio in coordination with CSC.
  • Support the risk management program across the portfolio, ensuring adequate insurance coverage and cost-efficiency. Identify opportunities for cost savings and assist companies with insurance renewals.
  • Support portfolio company CFOs in coordinating annual benefits and insurance renewals; develop strategies to improve employee benefit program quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Maintain awareness of coverage gaps, policy changes, and broker relationships across the portfolio in coordination with the Senior Finance Operating Partner.
Special Projects
  • Handle special projects as requested by the KLH team or portfolio company management, including litigation support, capital project evaluation, risk management, contract disputes, and balance sheet reconciliation work.
Qualifications
  • CPA preferred; CPA-level technical accounting knowledge required.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in public accounting, corporate finance, or a private equity operating role.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting multiple entities simultaneously — portfolio company, multi-site, or multi-entity experience a strong plus.
  • Deep technical knowledge of GAAP, including purchase accounting (ASC 805), lease accounting (ASC 842), and fixed asset management.
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar); implementation experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with corporate treasury and payment tools (Ramp, CorPay, Rho, or comparable platforms) preferred.
  • Strong command of financial close processes, balance sheet reconciliations, and management reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to translate technical accounting issues for operational audiences.
  • Proficiency in Excel; comfort with data tools and process automation a plus.
  • Working knowledge with AI tools including Claude and ChatGPT; comfort with other applicable tools, connectors, and process automation a plus.
What We’re Looking For
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in a public accounting environment and experience serving as Controller (or assistant controller) at a private equity-based company. Experience in industrial service industry a plus.
  • A self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and can manage multiple priorities across a fast-moving portfolio without losing detail orientation.
  • Someone who communicates with confidence and clarity — equally comfortable advising a portco controller as presenting findings to the KLH deal team or Senior Finance Operating Partner.
  • Grit, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine interest in operations and value creation — not just accounting compliance.
  • A team-first mindset in a close-knit, high-trust environment.
  • In-person collaboration and consistent engagement with the Tampa team and portfolio company management.
Other Considerations
  • Travel to portfolio companies is expected.
  • Candidates based in or willing to relocate to Tampa, FL (KLH Capital headquarters) are preferred.

Compensation includes a market-based salary, performance bonus, benefits package, and co-investment eligibility. Title and level will be determined based on candidate experience and fit.
